Question about 2007 silver britannias

Does anyone know if any of the 2007 silver britannias were released in tubes? I'm having trouble finding one in good shape. The coins in the mint cards or bubble packs haven't been up to snuff thus far.

Does anyone across the pond have a line on a 2007 that has a shot at MS69? Please contact me if you do. That's the last year I need.

And is it just me, or does it seem that britannias in Britain seem to be nicer than the ones we get over here in the US?

Hey, I'll treat anyone right who finds me that MS69 2007 britannia. image

I tried to email Chard, since they list quite a stock of britannias on their site, but the email keeps bouncing back. Does anyone shop there?

  • The 2007 Britannias were issued in mint plastic sheets of (20) coins. Most of the coins had severe scuffing on the Queen's cheek due to the "loose fit" plastic dimple sheets where the coins rattle around during shipping which causes scuffing on the high points (i.e. the Queen's cheek). Here is a 'typical" 2007 Brit as advertised on a national dealer's website:

Previous year Brits did not have this problem -- either due to better packaging or perhaps the coin rims were slightly higher than the queen's image.

I took a bath on the scuffed 2007 coins and sold many at cost or below. For this reason, I do not carry the 2008 Brits.

True, the sheets don't protect the coins very well. The alternate packaging - an open-faced capsule in a card contained in a sealed (but with air holes) plastic bag - is just as guilty of imparting hairlines.

But are the horrific cheek scuffing problems related to packaging? I initially thought so, but I no longer do. I think it's a strike problem. I believe they aren't hitting the blanks with enough pressure to force the metal to flow properly into the Queen's cheeks and other high spots on the coin, leading to a scuffy appearance. If anyone can demonstrate otherwise, I'm interested in hearing why you disagree with my hypothesis.

The 2008 coins were released in the mint cards, sheets, and at least some tubes, according to what I've heard from my sources. The ones in tubes ended up being the highest quality coins of the year.

Contrary to what silvereaglecoins stated, the cheek scuffing problem definitely existed on other dated coins, no just the 2007s.

I would be very interested to learn whether the Royal Mint ever released any 2007 coins in tubes. I haven't heard of that happening, but apparently, the 2008 tubes weren't widely advertised either.
