Canada 2000 Toonie

ajaanajaan Posts: 17,460 ✭✭✭✭✭
Riding the bike to the PO to mail something to lordminivan, I notice something on the street. I turned around and picked up a 2000 Loonie.

For the first time, I have used toonies before in Canada, I noticed the reeding isn't continuous on the rim. Anyone know why? There are five breaks in the reeding.

The staggered reeding is for the vision impaired. The toonie is similar in size to the nickel dollars.

I have seen those, but I don't know why they were made that way.

Had I been a little faster, my post above would not look so dumb!image

    Don,
Was it a Loonie that you found,or was it a Twoonie? A Loonie is a gold-coloured coin, whereas,a Twoonie is a bimetallic coin.

Although I am from New Zealand,I do collect Canadian coins.
