The guy who won the 100m sprint in the Olympics does not fit the mold of a sprinter.
He is 6'5" tall. He covered the 100m in 41 steps. I suspect that the other shorter runners took more than 41 steps to cover the same distance.
He has been running this distance for about one year. He is 21 years old and had previously run longer races (200m). He had to ask his coach if he could try the 100m.
His time of 9.69 seconds could have been faster had he not eased up at the end. I wonder if with a little more training he could reduce the WR time from 9.69 to 9.5 or less?
Absolutely amazing what the human body can do.
One last question. Do you think there will ever be a day when a non black runs in the 100m sprint in the Olympics again? The last white guy I remeber was Valerie Bortzav of the Soviet Union in the 1972 Olympics in Munich. That was one fast white boy.
