It is a very fun break. If you don't mind spending the money to put together a set than I would bust as many boxes as I could afford and do it the old fashioned way. There are a bunch of great guys to trade with to fill in the extras. If you choose to buy a complete set I have a couple available for sale that I'll make you a good deal on.

The thrill of ripping and the search for trades is the best part of set building (IMO). I'm not doing a A&G set but I ripped some boxes and traded some of the extra stuff to get the cards I wanted. The fine folks on the A&G thread will make it a good time for you if you choose to go that route.
It really depends on what you consdier a "set". The base set which are 1-350 of big cards is an easy set to put together. You could bust 3-4 boxes hobby boxes and be real close. If you want to do any of the mini sets you are going to need some help ...trading. The minis sets are just too vast to do by wax. If you buy a case, chances are you would have enough in relics, rip cards and autos to trade and be very close to a mini set 1-350 or maybe even an A&G back set and you always have the chance to walk away not only with a mini set, but a nice cut, nice red ink auto or something else personal collection-worthy
That is what makes Ginter great, there is plenty of value in boxes and cases and there is plenty BESIDES THAT that people want. Most of the time you bust a box, put two cards aside and the rest is worthless..Ginter is not like that, there are ALWAYS people looking for the minis. even after 10 packs you have stuff to trade and collectors who need it.
If you have a spare hour or 10, read the A&G thread! LOL If you have any other questions let us know....hope to trade with you soon if you take the plunge!
<< <i>Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY INDIVIDUAL RETAIL PACKS. Your best bet is a sealed 7 pack blaster box from Target. >>
I thought this too, but since I hadnt bought many 2008 A & G. I decided to buy the few they had left at Wal Mart the other day along with the two remaining blasters they had. Out of the blasters, I did not get any relic or auto and only got one of the world leaders and one of the icons. Out of the 10 individual packs, I got an auto, two relics, a shark, and a world leader. I think the best thing about A&G is that they put that thick insert in the middle of every pack, although in most cases it still doesnt stop the pack searching morons from "squeezing the Charmin"
Wow! You got that from Wal-Mart? That's awesome. You are 1 of two people that I've heard had a few good pulls from Wal-Mart packs. The nearest Wal-Mart here is really dirty and they don't take care of their card section. I always see pack searchers there too. Good for you on those pulls! That's awesome!
Well the auto was Jarrod Saltalamachia and the relics were Brian McCann and Troy Tulowitzki. so not super great, but since I'll need them for the set, it wasnt too bad, plus I got a good start on the base set
I my opinion, I'm doing Allen & Ginter now. If you build sets the base cards are nice looking. I am building the minis there are nice looking, and the value seems to crab them to a good price. However, like any type of collection what does Allen & Ginter mean to you, only you can answer your own question, I sure can't answer it nor can anyone here. Example, I collect only baseball cards because that was a very big part of my childhood thus I became a collector. I found my first Indian head penny, thus I became a coin collector, and so on. What it means to you. AS far as the money, well, what does your collection mean to you, the money is a means to reach your end.
