Jays quest for the AL Wild Card!!!

Yes, I said it, and I know I'll be the only one posting in here (and by the way, this isn't a joke).
Now 9 games over .500 since Cito took over (and I was a non-believer by the way, never really liked him), and with the MAJORS BEST pitching (starting and bull-pen), AND with their next 15 or so games against the Sox, Yanks and Rays, the time has come.
I'm calling 5 out of 6 this week (I'm posting Sunday afternoon, they just beat the Sox 2 straight), and if they pull it off, we may see history (not really sure about that, but they are certainly hot at the right time).
Let's go Jays!!!

I hope the Jays stay hot, especially against the Rays and the Yankees.

Here's an interesting stat: Johan Santana threw his 8th career complete game today. Halladay threw his 8th complete game this season a few days ago. I know he won't win, but Halladay deserves Cy Young consideration.
  • Halladay = most underrated pitcher in the game.

Definately keep it going against the Rays and Yanks! image

Alex Rios has finally started hitting like he should which is a huge plus for you guys, and yes Halladay is a STUD.
  • Too bad the Jays got off to such a crappy start. They have talent, just inconsistent. If Halladay pitche for the sox he'd have 18 wins.

Despite his record he will get many votes for Cy Young. There is no pitcher in the game right now that has the heart and stamina to consistently throw complete games.

Roy would have 18 wins if he had had some run support in some of his earlier outings this season. Burnett is also pitching like the Jays expected him to when they signed him to that contract. I would LOVE for the Jays to make a run but, well, time is running out.
  • 2 out of 3 against the Yanks, will they be pulling out the brooms against the Bean-Towners this weekend (both Marcum and McGowan will start)?
Not a bad game by Halladay tonight either!

Halladay was cruising for a while tonight and it almost looked like the Yankees were just going to lay down and die for him just to put themselves out of misery with that kind of impossible deficit.

The Jays have a tough road ahead though. I saw on the broadcast tonight that they don't play a team with a losing record until something like September 6th, but that they at least are playing teams within the AL East so if they rattle off some wins they could certainly make a go at it.

The Sox are 0-6 in Toronto this year, so getting swept isn't out of the realm of possibility at all. It will help the Red Sox cause that they aren't facing Halladay though.

I think you can eat that broom.
  • Yep, Marcum pitched like Beckett this week (comparing him to Beckett's last start against the Jays).
Gotta win the next 2, or stick a fork in em!

Get real, Marcum couldn't carry Beckett's jock strap. One bad game and you've got Beckett as the poster boy for failure. Irrational exuberance at best.
  • I said nothing about Beckett being a bad pitcher, I mentioned he had a terrible game against the Jays last week, that was all. I don't see the Sox folding up and hiding against the Jays, but you severely underate the Jays. They lost ALOT of games this year early in the season they could have easily won if not for the offense performing pathetically back then, but I think we're getting to see a team that can actually hit. Add that to the best staff in basball, and I can see them winning 2/3rds of the rest of their games. Alot of things have to go right, but the season is not over yet.

I'd love for the Jays to beat up on the Sox.

Well, Marcum has been optioned to Syracuse. Now you think your Jays can go .666 in the remaining 33 games and make some kind of miraculous move up? Gonna win 22 out of 33 games huh? Get a clue, it's O-Vah for the Jays this year. Your irrational exuberance is noted again.

BTW, what makes you think the Jays have the best staff in baseball? Better than the Rays, Angels, Red Sox, Cubs...etc, etc? Nonesense!!
  • MCMLV;
The Jays have the best starting ERA in the AL (maybe both leagues, didn't check the NL), as well as the best relief ERA in the AL.

Shawn Marcum just came off the DL about 2-3 weeks ago. Throw out his first start back (which we all should do when a pitcher comes back), his ERA is around 4.00 in the other 5 starts. He's going to AAA to work on location. He'll probably pitch 2 starts there and then be back.

The Jays lose today and it's all for naught anyways.

I don't hate the Red Sox, if they Jays don't make the playoffs I'll be rooting for either the Sox (Bay), Cubs (Dempster or Harden), or the Twins, because they all have Canadian All-Star players. I rather like the Red Sox, and think they have a very good team. But ignorant about the Jays? Once again, this team has lost so many 2-1 and 1-0 games (honestly, I don't have the stats but it's ridiculous), they should be so much farther ahead than they are. But dems da breaks! They can EASILY win 2/3rds of the remaining games due to their pitching, and since Cito returned, the offense has been at least average (which for them, is probably good enough).

What the hell does that mean? I said you had irrational exuberance, surely you understand that, if not, ask a friend who knows who Alan Greenspan is.

BTW, you have some serious PATHETIC, LOW CLASS fans in Canada...booing while they were tending to Ellsbury, who just slammed into the wall is just seriously STUPID

    Your season is TOAST.
  • Huge series coming up between the Sox and the Blue Jays! This is one reason why baseball is so great. A few weeks ago it was looking bleak for the Blue Jays. Now they've been killing their oppoenents for two weeks and they've pulled to within 6.5 games in the Wild Card with a 4-game series against the team they are chasing. It looks like the Blue Jays are going to make a concerted push too, as I just read they've altered their rotation so that Burnett, Litsch, and Halladay will all pitch in this series. I can't wait for the showdown.
  • Jays have been too hot. Let's not bring up Colorado from last year either. Totally different story playing in the AL East.
Jays will not continue their hot streak much longer. Too much good pitching in the AL to combat their quest for the wild card.

    80's toyguy did call this.

And a team can win 15 straight games in any division.

    I'm rooting for them.

They did not have a choice. They played a doubleheader Tuesday with Burnett and Litsch starting because Monday was rained out. On Wednesday Halladay started. They would have had to start either Burnett or Litsch on Saturday with 3 days rest anyway because of the rainout but with it being a doubleheader they have to start both. Burnett, Litsch and Halladay will all be starting on 3 days rest.

Astros have won 14 of the last 15 played.

15 straight is hard but can be done.

Does Toronto even have to do that?

    Anyone do the math?

I'd like for them to do well.
