I Don't Think Seller Can Condition Acceptance Of Paypal On Buyer Paying Fees. No?

Seller rum_n_cola has a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth SGC 40 up for auction/best offer. He conditions acceptance of Paypal only if the buyer pays the fees, specifically:

Due to high fees I will only accept paypal if the buyer pays the fees.

I'm not certain, but I don't think this is permissible. Can anyone confirm?

Couple of things I look from the auction.

1. The Ruth actually looks fairly nice for a SGC 40. Any guesses as to crossover potential to PSA. Any chance at a PSA 4?

2. Look at the SGC population report. It states that there is a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth SGC 98 # 144 and a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth SGC 98 # 181. All I can say is wow. Has anyone ever seen these cards? They must be immaculate.

P.S. I just saw the description about the wrinkle. Forget any ideas of a crossover to PSA.

  • No they cannot add a surcharge to accept Paypal. They can however offer a discount for paying by other methods.

According to VCP, the Latest Auction Prices for this card in SGC 40 - Last 5 Sales Average Price: $1,765.

He's asking $2800 and would probably take $2400 for it, or maybe lower....

So what's the big deal over the PayPal fee?

    Apparently he has no clue!

He also said it had a crease, then when he claimed some dealer offered him 2500.00
    it had a crease.

I also did not like the idea of him telling buyers they needed to pay the paypal fees.
