Suppose that gold did not exist . . .

. . . what difference would that have made in the development of our coinage system? What would be the primary monetary metal today? Silver? Platinum? Something else?

    Almost anything deemed "hard to get" would likely work.

    This would surely impact what chocolate coins would be wrapped in.

    Not only a matter of hard to obtrain metal, but what metal demonstrates some of the qualities of gold, resistive to corrosion, great conductor of electricity, eye appeal.....
