I was kind of suprised that so many board members reponded to the recent thread...."Where Do You Buy Your Cards/Sports Related Items?".....with eBay as the overwhelming source of cards. I have found that unless you have an exceptionally large scan, it's hard to spot imperfections on cards and most of the cards that I end up purchasing need to be upgraded. Am I just too much of a perfectionist? And how do PSA flips get so scratched up....what are these people doing.....dropping them on concrete and using boxing gloves to try to pick them up? Don't you agree that generally speaking, when you purchase cards on eBay, you end up getting a card that the purchaser is trying to get rid of....not to raise money, but to get it out of his collection because of some imperfections, that are never highlited in the descriptions...scratched or cracked flips, cards that have obvious flaws that made the grade anyway, totally off-centre backs...you name it. Do you think I'm just ranting or is there enough truth here to think twice about eBay purchases?

I often sell cards to get money to buy different cards I want. Not to get rid of them.

I have gotten some great bargains with ebay. Not all sellers just sell dregs. I do a little selling to
raise funds for stuff I really want and my PSA slabs are super clean, properly graded, and packed
securely.

It all depends what you buy and quantity.

ebay is the best for quantity and generally price. Quality, even of graded, can be a roll of the dice. Count on winning some and losing some.

Guys who get sick of that can/will pay full price (SMR+ in many instances) for a sure thing from reputable dealers, auction houses and at shows.

Ebay is a giant flea market, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but I bought some great cards over the years on there and lo and behold some of the sellers end up being board members. There is plenty of quality on Ebay if you have the time and patience to seek it out. I have gotten equally good cards on the BST from nearly 2 dozen different sellers with no problems, no hassles and no complaints.
