  • Theboz11,
The Krause & Pick catalogues on D.V.D.s are very handy to take along to a coin show. There's quite a lot of new listings, such as the Irish 2007 silver 15 Euro medal-coin,& the Euro coins from both Cyprus & Malta.

This year is the first year that the Krause & Pick catalogues are on D.V.D.s.Who needs to take along your bulky books to a coin show? I certainly wouldn't.

Buy the D.V.D.s,& you will save time fiddling around.

Are the photos better/clearer or is the format basicly an "acrobat" type image of the book page?

To speed things up immensely, copy the PDF content to your hard drive and view from there... waiting for optical drives to spin up is a royal PITA.

I'm in the process of turning my laptop into a 1-stop numismatic and philatelic resource shop for when I'm at shows:

    1. Krause 1601-1700
    2. Krause 1701-1800
    3. Krause 1801-1900
    4. Krause 1901-2000
    5. Graysheet newsletters (U.S. wholesale pricing)
    6. Greensheet (wholesale currency pricing)
    7. Scott Classic Specialized Catalog (stamps, 1840-1940 worldwide)
    8. Scott U.S. Specialized (stamps, U.S.)
    9. Haxby Catalog of Obsolete Banknotes

Now if only I had PDF versions of Spink, Charlton, and some of the specialized token catalogs... Schwartz/Lindquist would be handy as well...
  • Coinpictures,
I've never heard of the 'Haxby Catalog of Obsolete Banknotes'.Is it a companion to 'Coins of Canada' by J.A. Haxby & R.C. Willey?

The ideal catalogues that should be available on D.V.D.s are the Schoen catalogue of world coins (Weltmuenzcatalog),the Spinks catalogues of the British Isles' coins,& a new edition of the Coincraft catalogues of British Isles' coins from 1066.

I totally agree with this comment.

It was still faster for me to use a book until I started setting references into the PDF files from within my coin collection application, now I love it.
I jump straight to the desired page in any of my Krause PDF files, and moving the PDFs to the hard drive made it perfect.

Only after doing both did I start to give up the books.
  • Speaking of Krause, I just came from our local book distributor's annual sale and was able to pick up the 2009 edition (1901- 2000) with the DVD for a quarter! It had been shipped to a library in Conn. by mistake and returned. Sorry, was the only one.

Wow! That's a steal, you deserve to get a "You Suck" award for that - even if it's not a coin.

Edited to add: User Wildman was selling the Krause 2008 combo DVDs 1800s-present, dirt cheap on Amazon.com a while back, somewhere around $39.00 got you all three books (on DVD)

That's a real bargain - paying 25c. for the latest Krause catalogue, including the D.V.D.! My boss pays full cover price, plus postage from buying off Amazon.
