The Redeem Team is fun to watch

I'll admit heading in that I wasn't terribly excited about the Olympic men's hoop tourney but man, the way they are playing defense so far is unbelievable. They are a very unselfish team, and take very few bad shots or one-on-one moves. Almost every possession they are beating someone off the dribble and finding a teammate for a basket.

I like the international game much more than the NBA.

Early this morning I watched the USA team play the Greek team. Gotta give credit to the USA team. They played very well, including magnificent defense.

However, even though the USA team won by about 20 points, I has a feeling that at any moment the Greek team could and would catch fire and storm back to take the lead. Didn't happen today, but who knows.

It is very interesting to watch the USA team filled with NBA AllStar studs (all black players, BTW) play against high quality international teams, like Greece and Spain (mostly, if not all white players). Kind of like going back in time 40+ years and seeing the Texas Western v. Kentucky NCAA Championship game in 1966.
  • When's the next game ? I haven't seen them yet, but maybe I'll check them out.

    thanks image

I'd rather watch softball, badminton, or boxing than Olympic basketball.

If it matters, I have a significant dislike for Kobe.

i hate Kobe too, but he seems less obnoxious in the USA uniform.

fitz - Next game is definitely the one to watch vs. Spain...Sat morning 10:15ET.

The next game will be Saturday morning at 8:00 against Spain which is the best team in the field not counting the US. They played great this morning. Dwayne Wade was all over the place. As far as the 20 point margin of victory goes, you will not see the days of 40 point blowouts anymore by the US. The other teams are too good. It's not that we are all that bad. Spain has 4 NBA players on the roster and two of them (Gasol and Calderon) are top notch players. They are still in pool play. Each team plays each other in the pool of 6 teams and the best 4 continue to the medal round against the best 4 from the other pool. When the medal round begins it is one and done. Can you imagine the NBA playoffs with this type of scenario. I would rather see at least a 3 game series for the Gold.
  • Anyone else think that most of these international players should really be playing soccer or acting, with the amount of times that they flop in games?

You'd get your a** beat at the local playground if you played like that in the states.

another can of whoop-a$$ opened up against Spain today....

goot - you're right about the flopping in the international game....take away the ticky-tack fouls they called on the U.S., and they'd have won by 50.
