I love this unopened rack pack, but what's with the holder?

    Looks fine...the light's striking it and causing a glow. Same on the raised lettering.

    Reminds me when my dad and i cracked a 78 rack case. We found a murray on the top dad was yellin leave it.
    After closer inspection corners were solid and centered 5050 we cracked it only to find the smallest little surface
    crease arrgghhh!!!! I'll find another someday I hope

    I wouldn't worry about it. The seller has stellar feedback and is not trying to hide the fact that the corner of the holder broke. If he was trying to do a switcheroo I would imagine he would not take a picture of that corner.

    Looks like an honest auction. to me, too. Most sellers don't even mentioned if the rack case is cracked. $380, though, is a high price to pay for this rack, and the auction is still not over. The Murray looks mint but even a Mint 9 Murray won't command that much. And it's not even listed in the unopened packs category either. The featured listing fee has paid off for this seller, IMO.

    That's a Global holder. The plastic they use on their oversized holders is very similar to the plastic used in action figure (think McFarlane and Starting Lineup) blister packs. It's just two layers of the plastic, melted together along the edges.

    I've got a T3 Nap Lajoie that's the exact same...it even has a one-inch crack on the right side.

    I've always wondered...

    When packs are graded like the one in this auction, what do think the success rate is for getting at least that same grade on the top cards? 25%? higher?

    That one has no chance at even an 8 despite the fact that the centering is PSA 10 quality. Top left corner looks pretty dinged.

    The grading of a pack has absolutely no bearing on the cards inside the pack (since the cards cannot be seen). It is simply as it sounds, the grade/condition of the pack itself (the wax paper, folds, corners, seal, absence of tears, centering of the design, etc...).

    You could theoretically have a gem-mint-10 pack yield nothing but off-center cards inside, or cards with dinged corners (they could've been damaged before going in the pack). You could also have a mid-grade pack yield one or more gem-mt-10 cards in it. Another big factor is the gum. If it is/was stuck to the card it was packaged against, that card will be severely damaged. It's really a crap-shoot.

    The winner of this auction is an aggressive collector of vintage unopned. Very nice rack, but price went too high, IMO.
