hmm..are you sure those rack cases werent searched??? Lots of valuable cards in that 92 Fleer set!
  • 1991 Fleer Ultra Football box. 12 Ricky Watters rookies and 1 Favre.

Opened a box of Wild Card jumbos in the early 90s that was suppoused to have 3 inserts per pack instead it had 3 Base cards and the rest were inserts.

Wasnt that a promotion with Wild Card?? Some boxes were considered 'hot boxes'??

That's funny. I ripped a box of 1991 Stadium Club on here awhile back and ended up with zero Favre and zero Watters. Got like 6 Jay Novaceks.

  • The whole case turned out to be that way. It was not just the one box.

Cool. Hot case then. I hope cashed in back then and you're not still sitting on them. Those multiplier cards were smokin hot back in the day.
  • Not in the 90's but have to throw in my recent bust of 10 boxes of 1986 Topps baseball. Of course looking for PSA 10ish Ryan's and decided to put a few sets together. 5400 cards and now have two incomplete sets with about 10 holes to fill in both.

    I had a 91 TSC box with 3 Watters and 1 Favre.

Also busted a 92-93 TSC Basketball box and got SIX Shaq RCs.

I opened a box of ProSet football back in the day that was loaded! I got over a dozen Santa Claus cards and just as many ProSet superhero cards as well as tons of other "rare" cards!!! Value today? About fifty cents total. At the time I felt like I won the lottery.
    Collect Ozzie Guillen Cards
    Unique Chicago Cards
    Wrestling Cards
  • what about inserts? in the cellos what was the chase cards?

    thats really bizzare coallation.

I always open the top 4 packs of anything I sell in the store just for kicks

Bought a box of 91 Stadium Club Football from bbceexchange, top four packs 4 Joe Montana base cards. Made me feel good because at least I am even more confident they were unsearched as those would have been one to open back in the day.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

Darn Roger... it's a shame you're not cracking RACKS of that set. I'm still hoping to find a respectable (PSA 9 or better) Sabo Team Leader card.
Those cards (green borders) are MOTHERS! I think Fleer had mult. baboons insert them into the racks.

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

  • I recently opened a rack box of 87 topps baseball. I got 21 Cansecos... a few packs in I noticed that each pack had a little sticker on it "Canseco", "Mattingly" etc.
    White Whales:
1996 Select Certified Mirror Gold Ozzie Smith
2006 Bowman Chrome Orange Refractor Chris Carpenter

thats interesting. sounds like you got a box from a sequence master who had those Cansecos squirrelled away to retire with one day.

That's a tough break. No card is hotter right now than the 92 Fleer Dale Murphy.

You did not buy them from Ed Berry did you? I know he used to have those lists and would raid all the rack packs of the dealers at his shows.

Once again, this is the fool that accused me of being a thief and disgrace to the hobby and tried to have me arrested when I was 17 for trying to sell a 1955 Bowman Mays that he said I stole from him. He dropped the charges when he found it in his shop. Remember him sorting through all my early 80's racks and cellos at card shows. Wish I would have robbed him now.

+1 for completely random Office Space quote. Can never have too many of those.

It wasn't totally random--I was implying that Milton was the one doing the collating for 1992 Fleer. That is, until he mysteriously stopped receiving his paycheck. image

    Those were great cards Roger.

I bought packs at the PX with my son - we had a good time - I think it's one of the things I remember most about the '92 collecting year.

I still rememeber the first one he pulled - he went nuts! I still have the card.

  • I liked the 92 set's design, but yeah, I remember even the standard packs were collated nutball. When I was going through my Nolan Ryans to send to PSA, I had 2 of his regular card from 92 Fleer and a dozen record breakers. WTF. It's OK, though... the one regular issue I sent in came back a PSA 10. I love the rich, shiny green....
Nolan Ryan & Edgar Martinez are my favorite players...

Funny you mention this, because my son is now 4 1/2, and while I have no personal interest in busting modern boxes I can easily see myself going all-in on unopened modern stuff 3-5 years from now if my son decides to get active in the hobby. Not because I give a damn for the rip, but because no price would be too high to see my son's face if he managed to pull a huge cut auto or a high dollar 1/1 of a major player.

Yes Boo - it's well worth it and you'll probably do it.

But, I promise - it'll take way less than a 1/1 to excite the mind of an 8 yr old - you'll have the time of your life!

I'm sure you're right, Mike. My kid's a little weird, so it's not entirely clear that he'll be into cards, but if he does turn out enjoying the hobby I'm really looking forward to getting back in to the box-busting side of things.
