NBA Megastars playing overseas? So says Kobe and LeBron.

I heard new reports on sport talk radio that both Kobe and LeBron have recently made statements to the effect that before they sing a new contract to play in the NBA they both will consider testing the "global market".

If either one of these NBA megastars (or other NBA megastars) jump ship and play overseas for gazillions of Euros, etc. expect it to become a trend, with pro teams from all over the world chasing the best talent.

Just a forerunner of pro basketball morphing into a truly global enterprise.

The player agents representing the players and the team representatives charged with negotiating contracts will have to expand their knowledge base to be able to effectively and creatively come up with new, cutting edge, contract provisions to entice the top talent [i.e. prime tickets to the Moulon Rouge in Paris comped to the player along with backstage passes to spend a little time with the newest star of the show to help the player acclimate to living in Paris].

Would I love to see it? Absolutely, because I don't particularly care for David Stern or the NBA.

Is it going to happen? I think there's a better chance of my 49ers winning the next ten (10) Super Bowls.

  • David Stern's goal and dream would come back to bite him in the a**.
  • I think it will happen and soon. With no salary cap and deep owner pockets overseas I think we will see a Lebron type cross the pond for an insane amount.

Earl Boykins will be the highest paid player in the Italian league for 08-09 season.

Josh Childress signed for 3yrs/20 mil to play with Greece.

Will it happen? I really don't know, but it is hard to pass on 50 mil per year. With the value of the euro and foreign
owners will deep pockets, the trend of quality NBA players going overseas is becoming a reality.

The 50 mil was mentioned in regard to lebron.
