I'm thinking it is a pitcher who plays or played in the AL and got up to bat one or two times

    Roberto Hernandez?

    In 17 MLB seasons, he hit .500, e.g. 1 hit in 2 at-bats.

Not the right answer, because he played only 1 game, not 15 years, but John Paciorek batted 1.000 for his career, going 3-for-3 in his only game played in the majors.

John was the older brother of big leaguer Tom Paciorek and played baseball, football, and basketball at St. Ladislaus High School in Hamtramck, Michigan with my favorite athlete of all-time, that being my father.
  • Why was Hornsby rounded to .358 instead of .359?
  • JackWESQJackWESQ Posts: 2,133 ✭✭✭
Baseball Reference has Rogers Hornsby going 2930 for 8173 in his career. This works out to .358497... With the fourth digit being a 4 (as opposed to a 5 or greater), you round down to .358.

    Guys,

Guess my post wasn't clear. I knew I didn't have the right answer, but I thought the John Paciorek tidbit was interesting. Not sure who has the most AB's of anyone who hit 1.000 for his "career".

Like I said, the only reason I even know this is because my dad and John were high school classmates / teammates.

    Sorry for derailing the thread.

    Tom,

    I found the tidbit interesting.

Just like I find the fact that Scott Munninghoff, Chuck Lindstrom, Eric Cammack and Eduardo Rodriguez are all tied with the highest lifetime slugging percentage at 3.000. Each had one (1) career at-bat and each nailed triple.

  • Sorry,

I forgot I posted this question!

I will say that there were two 'right' answers.

Terry Forster was the answer I was looking for.

I didn't realize the Roberto Hernandez fact had knocked Forster off the top(based on the 15 year qualification). The Forster question had been around for some time now. I guess the question isn't as fun if a 50 AB qualification has to be added. The 15 year qualification gives an initial head scratch.
