need advice on a 48/9 leaf robinson rc trade

at our local show a dealer has a 48 leaf robinson that at first glance appears vg but has a strong crease running through the card from left to right across the middle - card I think is a 1. but not the worst looking 1 in the world.
he wants $350 for it OR my bvg 2.5 '53 topps paige, EX+ 58 mantle/aaron world series foes I got from Mike Navarro, and $150 cash.

Is this a bad deal? good deal?

350 for a raw example that may grade is too much IMO

A sgc 1.5 can be had for 400 on ebay.

as for the trade I would'nt do it.

    Good for you.
  • I wouldn't do it, here are some vcp averages for you:

    48 Robinson
    PSA 1 $211.76
    PSA 2 $376.95

    53 Paige (no 2.5 sales)
    PSA 2 $77.00
    BVG 2 $78.00

    58 Mantle/Aaron
    PSA 4 $69.55
    PSA 5 $90.03

Seems like you are better off buying one already graded.

appreciate the help guys. $150 plus those cards seemed a little steep. He said he has no wiggle room in that price- gimme a break.

I definitely would not do that deal. You are far better off buying one graded as the VCP average shows. I hate when people say they have no wiggle room. In the card business you should always be open to reasonable negotiations. Especially, when it can purchased far cheaper from other sources.

    Good luck find another one!

I would really have to see the Robinson to decide. If it has good eye-appeal, is authentic, and was for my personal collection I might consider the trade personally. The 1948 Jackie card is an icon of the hobby to me, so I would be willing to "overpay" a bit for a nice copy.

PS. Dont get too hung up on the 1948 date on some of the slabs and the copyright on back. All of the Leaf cards were issued in 1949.
