Is this an early Pete Rose autograph?

I have never seen a Rose autograph like this. It doesn't look like his auto at all. Could this be an early vintage auto? This seller is very reputable and is selling tons of legit signed cards. This one caught my attention and I was wondering if any of you guys have ever seen a Rose auto like this. If you have any doubts about the seller, just look at some of his other auctions. They all look legit.

One thing that sounds an alarm as I looked at it again is that he said that he has only collected autos for 18 years. That would be since 1990. I don't think Rose's signature has changed since 1990. Could it still be an older signature or is it a fake? Why would a legit seller sell a fake if it is?

The autograph on the 1973 card was not signed by Pete...guaranteed. Rose autographs from the 1963-67 period show a little variation from the common ones you see now, but nothing like this.

I guess I could have looked at some facsimile's from 70's Topps cards to figure that out.

Back in 1988, when Pete was part owner (10%) of Gold's Gym in Forest Park, Ohio, Pete signed many items of memorabilia and a few personalized things for my sons and me.

None of the sigs look anything like that one.

Here's one of my son's favorites which is identical to a few autographs Pete signed for me back in 1972 which Justin's trying to locate as I type:

I have submitted a question with the seller. I am waiting for a response.

Have any of you guys looked at his other auctions? What did y'all think?

I have bought from him in the past and everything I have from him was legit.
I know that he bought quite a few large autograph collections from a few guys on Sports Collectors.net so I wouldn't let the 18 year starting point be a factor.
Get a Psa/Dna quick opinion on the Rose you may be surprised.

I just got an email back from the seller. It says -

"vintage sig, this was actually from a collection from a collector in the 1970's who got autos at shea and Yankee stadium"

I've seen a Rose sig or two, with authentication, that I remember to be very similar. Easy to remember because of the stark difference to a modern sig.

There is a slight chance the "guy got autographs in person at Shea" is true, as there is a slight chance the signature is really good.

However, in today's market, the value of autographs of star players is (unless you want to go on blind trust) whether or not PSA/DNA or JSA think it is good and you have to pay a stiff price for that determination.

I don't like it, but that's the way it is at the moment. As I have stated in other posts, I have two Thurman Munson sigs I got in person and have never been out of my possession, that were both "not passed" by both companies. So now I have two Munson signed cards that I cannot get a proper price for.

If there is any slight variation in signatures, the companies will not "pass" the signatures in an attempt to protect their a**es - yet they will keep your "authentication fee" whether or not they pass.

All I'm saying on the Rose is that if you buy it on the seller's word, then you probably will get a good deal. If you are buying in the hope of getting it slabbed, you'd be best to do the quick opinion. You'll only be out the ~$7 or so, rather than the $20 it would cost to slab. My bet is they wouldn't pass the autograph.
