Is Mike Piazza a shoe in for the HOF? Trying to decide whether or not to get him for my signed rook

In y'alls opinions, is Mike Piazza a lock for the Hall of Fame? His signed rookies are kinda pricey so I want to make sure before I buy one for my signed HOF rookie collection. I was always a Pudge Rodriguez fan during the years Piazza played so I'm a little biased in my assesments of Piazza. What is y'alls assesment of Piazza? HOF or not?

  • I don't see why he will not be inducted.
  • Maybe not first ballot, but he will get in.

I think so. Not only do I think he's the greatest hitting catcher of all-time, I think he is the greatest catcher of all-time.

  • EASY LOCK, but shoeless joe is asking too much for that fleer update

baseballreference.com isn't everything, but it's usually pretty accurate as to some things...

there isn't one elgible player with a HOF monitor higher than 150 that's not in besides mcgwire and rose...

OMG one month ago we were talking about Maddux and Glavin and Murphy. Pizza doesnt make the cut.
  • First ballot lock.
  • At one time, it was close to a lock, but the last 5 seasons of his career really hurt him. I can't say if steroids led to any of his breaking down. I understand catching is tough, but he really tailed off quickly right about the time steroid testing started. Coincedence? You never know what the voters will be thinking on this stuff.

He probably will get in later on, but I doubt it will be first ballot. Sure, he hit 427 homeruns, but played in the steroid era. Fairly or not, a lot of the steroid era players will be looked at a bit more harshly, by the voters.

Ruth? Aaron? Williams? Cobb? Bonds? Mays? Nope.

The player with the highest Hall of Fame Monitor is Stan Musial. And that puts a image on my face.

P.S. You have got to by psycho if you don't love Musial's 1948 season.

  • no brainer first ballot lock...its a shame he spent his career in 2 of the worst hitting home parks in baseball ,with very little protection behind him....also was clean ,unlike "pudge'" who shows up in spring training a few years ago 40 pounds lighter... pudge???...hes now the size of a good size jockey

First ballot lock. Arguably (along with Bench) the best hitting catcher of all time.

Agree 100%. Without a doubt. It's ludicrous to claim otherwise.

If he had those numbers as an OF, then it's a no go. However, being a catcher makes him a lock.

    BTW, nice card Mike!
