WOW, when the gavel fell on the final lot of "A Gift of Undeserved Favor" collection of DMPL dollars sold by Heritage at the Baltimore ANA -- numerous price records had been shattered and the incredible strength of this market was readily apparent to all of those in attendance. Following are a number of the coins that were sold along with the prices realized (including the buyers premium). Coins marked with an asterisk were purchased by me. BTW, all the examples I cited were "dealer" purchases.
1878 7TF REV '79 MS65 DMPL $27,600
1878-S MS65 DMPL $13,800*
1879-P MS65 DMPL $18,400*
1880-P MS65 DMPL $10,350
1881-P MS65 DMPL $20,700
1881-CC MS67 DMPL $63,250
1881-O MS65 DMPL $40,250*
1881-S MS66 DMPL $ 4,600*
1882-S MS66 DMPL $12,650*
1883-CC MS67 DMPL $27,600
1884-P MS65 DMPL $ 4,313*
1885-CC MS67 DMPL $51,750
1885-O MS66 DMPL $ 5,175*
1888-O MS65 DMPL $ 6,325*
1889-CC MS64 DMPL $94,875
1890-CC MS65 DMPL $18,400*
1890-O MS65 DMPL $10,350*
1893-CC MS64 PL $32,200*
1899-S MS65 DMPL $27,600*
1900-P MS65 DMPL $51,750*
1904-P MS64 DMPL $54,625*
There was also very strong collector participation that resulted in many more amazing prices realized. In the end, truly high quality (eye appealing) and/or rare DMPL dollars shone brightly at the ANA -- and I believe that they will continue to shine brightly for some time to come. I feel very fortunate to have been part of this landmark sale, which established a new benchmark in regard to prices.

Maybe the PCGS price guide for a MS64 DMPL 1889-CC dollar is too high ? The current CDN (aka the Greysheet) sight-seen bid is $53,000 -- obviously too low. Price guides do not buy or sell coins, nor do they establish prices -- actual transactions in the marketplace do! Take the price guides (regardless of which you choose) with a grain of salt.

<< <i>The 1878 8TF PCGS-65 DMPL VAM 15 (Ex. California) may have been the same coin that Legend sold to the California set owner only 4 years ago for $7500. PR: $18,400. >>
It was the SAME coin...

The 1904-P MS64 PL that went for $7,475.00 looks like a good deal. Record prices were being shattered all over the place and went beyond my expectations.

Brian,
The MS64 PL 1904-P dollar was indeed a pretty darn cool coin (and a good deal for the buyer).

<< <i>A properly graded 04-P 64PL is still an underrated coin IMO. A 64 DMPL is an outstanding rarity. (Was nice to have owned it for a number of years. No, I was not the consignor but a previous owner.) The number of tuned in prooflike collectors has really blossomed over that past 10 years, but there are still a few sleepers. >>
I agree with you John and MM's 04-P 64 PL was particularly nice...
