Emmitt Smith / Marcus Allen dual auto 1/1 Super Bowl Sigs

So I haven't busted any modern wax in over 2 years. (Aside from the occassional bowman chrome box or something just to do something different)

Was really annoyed at the National. Lots of overpriced, overgraded crap...everywhere. Annoyed, I walked by the blowout cards table and looked around. I was going to leave the nationals with almost all the money I came with. That just couldn't happen. So I dropped a few bucks on some SP Chirography tins. For those of you that don't know, but are still reading, it's a tin with 8 packs. 4 rookie autos and 4 "other" autos. Figured for $130 / tin, how bad could it be. Plus I was bored and peeved.

First tin, Marshawn Lynch rc auto #/199 and a couple other guys. Thought it was a fun rip and bought another one at the wife's approval. Glad I did.

I was offered a nice chunk of change for it already but brought it home with me instead. Anyway, cool card and wanted to share it. Some of you will appreciate and enjoy, others will not. Believe me, I used to rip WAY too much wax several years ago and got bitten by the vintage graded bug, so I can appreciate both views.

After I pulled it, I called my buddy I was with and told him. He talked me into buying two more. Glad he did.

Pulled these in the next two tins. image

Steve Young #9/10 and AP rc auto #/199

Fun product to open if you like modern shiny stuff.

Why'd they put Young's autograph on the back of the card? image

Thanks. I used to bust wax a lot. Several boxes a week in fact. I used to post my better breaks on here back in the day. Gave it up, spent my money buying football HOF rc's. Interestingly enough, I busted the wax and also put a number (about 20) vintage HOF'ers in my box to have graded. Probably not a lot of other folks walking around the show with an assortment of Emmitt auto's, and 54 bowman Doug Atkins rc's. image

Actually the back has the "Congratulations, you've pulled a certified..."

Great stuff, Josh, that 1/1 card is awesome. With my vintage sets at a virtual stand still and some of the great pulls on the boards lately, I have a major itch to bust some wax myself.

Were you primarily looking to sell off your HOF set at the Nationals? For some reason I assumed you exiting this set meant you were also largely exiting the hobby itself, so I was a bit surprised to read you were there.

Majority of my HOF set is with Mastro...for better or for worse.

I had a few cards with me that I showed to a few dealers but I was really, really disappointed this year. The Chicago shows have always been a lot of fun, this one sucked. Maybe it was just me, I don't know. I didn't sell a single thing and I couldn't find anyone to take my money for a while. If not for the wax I busted, I would have considered the show a total bust. Although, I did pick up some nice vintage stuff that I'll grade. Maybe part of my cynicism was due in part to the fact I don't have a set I'm working on or a player I'm looking for. It left me somewhat disinterested in a lot of stuff there.

I can't leave the hobby altogether, I enjoy it too much. Exiting the HOF set was merely me moving on to find another stopping place for a while. I did the raw sets for a while, then got into high end modern, then into the key card registry sets, then the HOF set...now I have nothing specific I'm working on. Just stuff I find "cool and interesting". It's a nice place to be actually. image

Oh, and I had plans with a buddy to go the nationals in Chicago this year since the last nationals in Chicago and there was no way he was letting me out of it! Which incidentally was the show I started my HOF set at.

Awesome cards! Being a AD collector I of coarse like the Peterson the best! Just when I was telling myself no more busting boxes for awhile a thread like this makes be itch to bust some boxes again. Congratulations on the monster pulls!

    Thanks.

Just to temper your excitement a bit, I busted a box of Finest, and managed autos of Aundrae Allison, Lorenzo Booker and some Timmons guy. That was $88 down the drain. Busted a box of Bowman Chrome, got a Leon Hall auto. Oy. Then busted 2 boxes of Contenders at $90 a pop, my best auto was some DE for the Cowboys. Anthony Spencer or something? At least he was a first rounder, the other 7 autos were 3rd to 7th rd Safety's and Tight Ends. At least SP Chirography was good to me. image

Was this before or after the Chirography breaks? I just read your first post again and saw you also pulled a Lynch. My god Upper Deck was good to you that day.

Great pulls...Lawrence Timmons (if that's who you pulled) was a 1st rounder, too...image

Ah yes, Lawrence Timmons. That was from Finest though.

To answer the other question, the Finest, Contenders and Chrome were bought with the first tin of SP Chirography. Then I bought another, then two more. image

Contenders was an absolute bust, again. Every time I've bought Contenders since 2002, I've gotten killed. 1999-2001 I did really well. I quit buying it altogether for a couple of years. Now I remember why.

I wish I had bought the Chirography first, I never would have bought the boxes of finest, contenders or chrome at all.
