Packers change their tune

Obviously, I'm not breaking any news here, but Brett is being added to the roster tomorrow at noon central. The team has announced that they will now have a quarterback competition for the starting role.

Anyone think Brett has a chance to start considering the fact that he's a game QB, never been that great at practice....he's not familiar with the new playbook and he hasn't been to any of the OTA's.

Thoughts?

Honestly if they are going to have a "True" competition for the position then so be it, sure it sucks if your Aaron Rodgers but thats life in the big city NFL, obviously the franchise needs to field their best team and if Favre wins his job back then what can you say? Obviously aside from Favre being a complete pain in the butt about his retiring and unretiring thing.

Would they be better off just granting his release so he can sign on with a division rival? Im not thinking that would be the smartest move, Favre is still a very good QB like him or not.

There is a rumor on some of the fantasty football sites that the packers plan is to release favre the day before the first game so it would be to late for him to catch up to speed with a new system. Like i said, just a rumor, but this has been ugly all along, and i reallly doubt they want favre to be the guy this season.

I think the team's biggest concern would be the money they make from #4 jerseys. If he goes to another team, the Packers would take a financial hit on the jerseys and other marketing stuff they sell with his number in their team colors. That's probably as big as not wanting to play against him. Why else would they offer him $20 / $25 million to just stay retired and call it a "marketing" offer?

    Amazing!

Veteran players won't be happy with a sign and cut. They will likely acknowledge his resolve by his refusal of $25m to sit, and his willingness to earn his spot back. With Favre & Grant in camp, they must be thinking superbowl. With Rodgers - ????

I think the Packers sat Rodgers down and said ..... " listen man, Brett is serious about coming back, so you will not be the man until next year AT LEAST. Sorry "

I will cut off my pinky finger if that happens. In the future, any potential free agent won't look twice at the Packers, knowing how they treated the best player in the team's history.
  • I really don't have any guesses anymore on what's going to happen. I guess I'll just keep my mouth shut and watch it all play out.

Echoing jdip9's sentiments, if that or something similar to that happens, it will be nothing short of un-f-in-believable.

Geez I don't know man. So the Pack will play that game and piss off Brett? If they did that I would be SHOCKED if Brett does not do all he can to stick it to the Packers and get a job with a divisional team. Early September is not nearly too late for a veteran like him to step in and learn. By October at the LATEST Brett would be fine ...
