This piece looks ex-Colchester hoard, they have a peculiar colouring and are all very late or posthumous Henry III, and very early Edward I.

How'd they ever figure out about Richard and John's coinage, if they're all marked HENRICVS?

I mean, I know we can look them up in a book and know the difference (though I have forgotten it), but how'd the first person figure that out?

I've often wondered this about a few Roman coins that were "struck in the name of" so-and-so.
