Most Popular Baseball Registry Sets

Here are the top 20 by number of sets registered.

1. T206 (156 sets registered)
1. 1975 Topps (156) This one surprised me. I knew it was popular but I had no idea it was this popular.
3. 1968 Topps (145) Another surprise.
4. 1972 Topps (138)
5. 1955 Topps (135)
6. 1956 Topps (133)
7. 1961 Topps (131)
7. 1971 Topps (131)
9. 1957 Topps (126)
10. 1960 Topps (122)
11. 1954 Topps (119)
12. 1965 Topps (117)
12. 1969 Topps (117)
14. 1967 Topps (108)
15. 1952 Topps (107)
16. 1959 Topps (102)
17. 1974 Topps (99)
18. 1963 Topps (98)
19. 1973 Topps (97) As much as this set is maligned, I was suprised it made the top 20.
20. 1978 Topps (91)

(21st place went to 63 Fleer with 90 sets)

Some observations:

The 1968 was the biggest surprise (to me anyway). Other than the Ryan rookie, I wouldn't think a set with this awful of a design would be popular at all.

I can't believe the 52 Topps and 33 Goudey weren't in the Top 5. THe Goudey set didn't even make the top 20!

I thought the 53 Bowman color would have made the top 20.

  • Actually, 1975 blows everything away. You can't forget the minis. Those of us who grew up in Michigan and California had no choice but to collect them...

Could it be because the 1968 set is so easy to compile in high grade?

Based upon how often I get outsniped, I would've sworn 1967 Topps was #1!

if you picked the one with collectors who have the most cash to blow it must be the 1966 set which doesn't get an honorable mention.

i would be interested in the set rankings where there at least 50% completion. you can have one card and still be in the registry. that doesn't mean your heart or wallet are into it.

I am surprised to see 63 Topps so low and 54 to be so high, even on the rearrange. 54 due to no mantle and 63 due to attractive design and I always see it at shows graded but it has its SPs as well. I mean 74 topps has more set collectors than 63?
