MPL heaven at the ANA

DMWJRDMWJR Posts: 6,008 ✭✭✭✭✭
Of course there was Stewart's set in all its glory ... 68's 67's ... and on and on ...

I also had the pleasure of viewing Tim Liston's stunning RB MPL set before it was split up. Tim, you did a wonderful thing 18 years ago. Those coins were phenomenal!!!

Laura had the 1909 VDB MPL in NGC 68*, and there were quite a few other MPL's floating around the floor.

OK, some of you purchasers need to step up and confess ... who bought what out of the Liston Set????

    It wasn't me, brother.

I did get some good news though. Since I couldn't make it, I asked Brian Wagner if he would get a brochure of Stewart Blays coins and have him autograph it for me. Brian call me yesterday and the deed is done. Looking forward to receiving it.
Every man is a self made man.
  • I was lucky enough to land the 1912 PR66RB Eliasberg.

Thank you, Tim. You are an outstanding collector and gentleman, in my book.

    Sincerely,

    Duane

By dumb luck, I happened to get one of Tim's dups he was parting with a few years back (1912 PR65RB, nearly RD) and I'm very happy I did. It's one of my favorite pieces. I wasn't collecting MPLs but decided to get one, that one happened to pop up while I was looking. At the time I didn't realize how great the coin was for the grade. If he kept a better RB, I can't imagine how nice that one must have been.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I write this message from Virginia Beach, VA as I visit my oldest son in his home town for a few days. I will be back in the office on 8/5.

I purchased 3 of Tims stunning coins from the two dealer friends of mine you bought the entire collection. The coins are as follows

1912 PCGS PR66RB Eliasberg has now been sold to the Blake Acre collection. Congratulations to Duane for completing his MPL set at the show and moving from #18 to 9# in one swoop! Duane was also able to land his last coin needed at the show!! 1909 VDB MPL graded by PCGS as PR65RB in an "OGH" "with a little help from his friends" Way to go!!

1915 PCGS PR67BN has also been sold since purchasing this amazing toned "MONSTER COIN" many folks told me this coin maybe the finest toner out there residing in a PCGS holder!! I can also go along in agreement with these collectors and dealers who viewed this coin at the show. It is going into one of the top rated "toned" PCGS registry sets.

Finally, Tim's 1916 PCGS PR66RB another "STUNNER" that I still currently own and not really to anxious to part with this one. I really like looking at this beauty.

Congrats to Tim Liston for his amazing accomplishment in putting this set together!!

It was great meeting alot of collectors in person at this show. I had a great time there and am sure others did also. Best to all!!

I don't really have the liberty to disclose details, but I just watched another vdb in 64rb change hands...

It's going to be a sea of green next week in the price guide...

I also got to see the Liston 1 Matte Proof Collection at Andy's table. The coins were all phenomenal and all in PCGS green label holders. To my eye. nearly every coin was an upgrade, some by two points. I bought the 1909 and 1913 from the Liston Collection, and I don't really actively collect Matte proof Lincolns, but the coins were so compelling that I just could not pass on them. I would have bought the 1915 as well if I could have swung it financially. Congratulaions to Brian on picking up the 1912, 1915 and 1916. I suspect that it will be quite a long time before a Matte Proof Lincoln Collection of this quality and freshness comes up for sale.
