Photography essentials for eBay sellers. Part 2.

Apologies in advance!

For those that have not seen Part 1

Lesson 1 - Cropping...you don't have to take a second picture...just crop! Saves time and batteries!

Lesson 2 - White balance.

image

Careful adjustment of the white balance will assure consistent, reproducible and vibrant colors.

Lesson 3 - What is BU?

image

The penny you see above is less BU than the penny you see below.

image

Lesson 4 - How to photograph a 1909 S VDB penny.

image

The details on the reverse are very important. They all look the same on the front; no need for a picture of that. There's an 'S' on the front, don't worry. It runs your batteries down anyway.

Lesson 5 - How to photograph a BU 1909 S VDB penny.

image

This also works for other key date lincoln or indian pennies.

Lesson 6 - How to handle a proof coin.

By the edges. The mirror like surface is far too delicate to touch.

image

Lesson 7 - Rainbow toned coins

image

That's what it looks like in hand.

The 1985 penny was in a bowl of zincolns I separated from the coppers. It had a hard life; but I did not do that damage.

The grime you see is molasses. Don't worry, it's completely harmless and inert; ugly as motor oil or something less mentionable. The cheap thin gold plate on that Carter Coin is as shiny as new!

No coins were harmed in the making of these images!

I need to think up five more. Time to surf on eBay!

    Another eBay photography tip:

Make sure to set your white balance so the coin looks like a more precious metal.
