Perkdog, do you still thing Manny is the 2nd best Redsox of all time?

In all seriousness, I agree with you that he is a great payer. My question is if he gets traded to the Marlins or somewhere else has he logged in enough time as a Redsox to be considered better than Yaz given his time with the Indians and whatever team or teams he finishes his career with.

I was wating for someone to call me on this! image

Unfortunately I hate to think of this thing ending with him acting like he has been lately but the Playoff/World Series heroics of his will always put a smile on my face when thinking of him down the road, I just wish I could understand why he wants out of Boston and why on earth he would have the nerve to bring it up at this time and not in the offseason.

All things considered, if he does get traded I can honestly say at this point he would still IMO be the second best Sox player. If he makes the HOF I believe it should be in a Red Sox uniform.

Im sure alot of fellow Sox Nation members will disagree with me on some points but they should always have a spot in their hearts for him.

Manny has put up some legends of the game type numbers. Like him or hate him, he is one of the greats of all time.

  • If he was still with the Tribe i would be calling for his head. He is an embarassment to the team and to the game. His comments today were outrageous and I'd sit his ass until we dumped him on on someone else.

Horrible work ethic, but you can't argue with his hitting ability. He's been an absolute beast, and a key contributor to two titles. Hard to hate a guy like that, IMO, even if he drives you nuts.

I don't know, but I personally find it extremely difficult to believe the Red Sox would actually trade Manny. We've been hearing stuff like this practically every year, and they always keep him. Most importantly, Manny always comes through. Knowing how ESPN loves to over-dramatize and blow things totally out of proportion, I frankly don't believe much of what they report any more. Furthermore, I won't believe anything about Manny being traded, unless and until Peter Gammons comes on and says it's been done and finalized.

Either way, I believe Manny will go in to the Hall of Fame as a Red Sock. He played eight years for the Indians, and this is his eighth year with the Red Sox. He did go to the 1995 World Series with the Indians, but he was an absolute key to the Red Sox winning two World Series; not to mention his stats are better with the Red Sox.

Manny is nowhere near being the 2nd best Red Sox of all time. Yes, he can clock a ball - when he's in the mood to do so. BUT, the key with Manny is he's letting his team down by his antics. I just now heard his latest rant against the Red Sox and talking about mental peace, blah, blah. Let him become someone else's headache.

I think he is CLEARLY one of the most selfish players of the Red Sox ALL TIME. Witness his pathetic lack of running to first base the other night, which might have broken up the no no. Manny is about Manny, he doesn't give a rat's ass about anything or anyone other than Manny. He has become a cancer to the Red Sox and his antics I'm sure permeate the dugout, locker room and everyone around him. Just look at his little cutsey sign of being traded for Favre "striaght up". Ha ha ha Manny, that was so funny I'm ROTFLMAO. He is the captain of ego and selfishness.

He's pissed because the Red Sox haven't picked up his $20m option. Yet Manny doesn't see his lack of production and HIS overall attitude about just pissing everyone off.

I have been a Red Sox fan for over 50 years, I've seen some pretty amazing stuff in that time with the Red Sox. I say get rid of Manny today, the sooner the better. He's not a team player and brings nothing but attitude everywhere he goes. I find it mind numbing that a person making about $125k PER GAME is so enraged with Red Sox management that he has to act like a spoiled punk, which is exactly what he is. What on earth could the Red Sox management have done to have him make such comments about management? I guess he has to place his discomfort on something other than his own selfish thought process.

C YA, it is O VA with Manny and I hope it's today.

Thing is even though his last HR is off Moyer, Moyer doesn retire until 2020 when his arm literally falls off his body.

What is your list that puts him no where near the top?

Don't need a list, although it would be easy to put together. Manny became such a narcissist that he became a total pariah to the team.

Nobody in Boston wanted to see Manny go, but enough of Manny being Manny, he called out management (on many more than one occassion) and they finally had enough. His antics without a doubt had a negative effect on his team mates.

So what about his homers and MVP in 2004, that's all ancient history. He dogged it with the fake knee crap when we needed him most in game one of the recent Yankees series. He obviously didn't want to put his best professional effort into playing and helping the team make it to the post season.

List? I don't need no stinkin list. Manny brought this down on himself. Now he can enjoy having to play everyday, without enjoying being a DH. Whatever the cost, the Red Sox are much better off without him and his mood swings.

I doubt it'll be long before LA gets a good whiff of the coffee, Manny will not change.

You come off as bitter and irrational. Without Manny you are at, what, 90 years and counting? You are letting your bitterness cloud your judgment.

Get real, when you become all about yourself as a player, AND when some players go to the GM to ask that they get rid of you, you gotta go. Bat or no bat, homeruns, whatever. He was not a team player, he became disruptive and destructive. Bailing on the 1st Yankees game was all I needed to see.

No bitterness here, and I think quite rational. Manny is gone and that's a good thing.

You wanna explain the 90 year comment? Seems a bit irrational to me, no?

Remember, when Nomar got sent to the same place, the Red Sox flourished and won the WS.

I'll listen to arguements of #3-4 of all time Red Sox position players. It's Ted, Yaz and Foxx. And I would probably go Foxx #3 because he didn't play his whole career with Boston. Same with Manny - otherwise he'd be the clear #2 position player. It's likely:

    1 - Ted Williams
    2 - Carl Yastrzemski
    3 - Jimmie Foxx
    4 - Manny Ramirez
5 - Tie between Speaker, Rice and Boggs

if you include pitchers, Manny is somewhere near #8. I would go:

    1 - Ted Williams
    2 - Carl Yastrzemski
    3 - Cy Young (192-112 2.60 ERA in 8 Seasons with Boston)
    4 - ugh - Roger Clemens (192-109 with 1MVP and 3CYA's with the Sox)
    5 - Pedro Martinez (117-37 with a 0.85 career WHIP in BOS)
    6 - Jimmie Foxx
7 - Joe Wood (117-56 with a 1.05 WHIP in his career with BOS)
    8 - Manny Ramirez

    Thoughts?

Edited to add: Foxx played 6 1/2 seasons in Boston and had a 175 RBI one season and won an MVP. Manny played 7 1/2 seasons in Boston. I think the MVP has to put Foxx ahead of Manny.

It's not irrational to think that the Red Sox would still be looking for their first World Series title since 1918 if Manny didn't help them get there.

<<<<Horrible work ethic, but you can't argue with his hitting ability. >>>

Don't confuse work ethic with hustle....Manny's well-documented video studying, hours in the cage, and pre-season workouts point to a pretty strong work ethic....hustle, on the other hand? totally different story, you can find dozen's of clips of him lollygagging it.

at the end of the day, for me, it's sad to see him go like this. I was really hoping he'd be a good boy, and play out this year.

Al- I think your being a little to harsh, believe me I completely agree that Manny had to go and he acted like a ignorant dirtbag in his last days here and Im not saying we should forgive and forget but we cannot forget what he has brought to the Boston Red Sox throughout his ENTIRE career- I dont care what anyone says/thinks but in no way are we 2 time World Series champs in the 2000's without Manny- bottom line.

Call it as you see it Perk. I certainly understand how you feel, but when a player becomes a legend in his own mind and trashes his team and management the way Manny has done, I have no use for him...PERIOD.

He did not single-handedly win the '04 and '07 WS for the Red Sox. All that is ANCIENT HISTORY.

I, for one, am looking forward to 7PM tonight. For once I am not screwed on a Saturday without the Red Sox game being shown.
