    $10k at auction

    $20 for the novelty

    $1 in change

there's been a turn of events as last month it was noted that a cheerios sac in original packaging was found not to have the pattern reverse...seriously...now one must open the package to ensure you have the pattern reverse...or suffer as someone already did

Would opening it hurt the value in any way if it was the pattern?

I wouldn't think so, since you would want to have it authenticated and entombed anyway.

ONLY if you were intending to send it to NGC who will authenticate it at the minimum as a "Cheerios" Dollar regardless if its the Reverse of 1999 Dollar or not.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Have him call me with the coin in hand.
    TD

Edited to add: he called me, and the coin appeared to have the die marker.

The obverse die marker is the best way to check the coin without removing it and taking it out of the package will likely not hurt the value at all. It's about the coin, not the plastic.

It was the pattern. They had left it there and when I called I asked them what they wanted for it. I agreed, paid the shop owner the money as discussed with the seller and left. I then get a call saying to come back they had changed their minds. That really sucked.

  • Im sorry and I might get flamed, but I wouldnt have taken it back.

The seller had a deal with the shop owner to sell it for a specific price?

You buy it, then the guy calls and says, no wait, they want it back?

    Thats crazy.

  • Ummm, who really changed their minds? Coin owner or greedy shop owner who finally did a little research and said, oh my? My guess is the shop owner and my second guess is you paid way below the $10k he could get for it.

The coin dealer could have gotten it for $5.00. He called me up there to see if I wanted it.

    Agreed.
    Isn't a deal, a deal?

Does it work that way if you overpaid the dealer? Not a chance.

i got burned just recently like this too...a sweet 1916-s walker sitting in an au50 pcgs holder that was every bit of an ms64/65 coin and seller upon packing to ship realized it and proclaimed the coin was sold prior and refunded..."that's life"

From my understanding this deal never took place. Money was paid but returned because the seller backed out. TD was instrumental in helping the OP identify it as the "pattern". (Possibly by identifying the obverse die marker since the reverse cannot be seen in original package )

The initial seller withdrew the offer to sell. Are we on the same page ?
As for the value : "How much is a CHEERIO SACAGAWEA in the original package worth ? "

I'll start the bidding at one dollar image
  • <<The initial seller withdrew the offer to sell. Are we on the same page ? >>

After it was sold. How is that ok?

I didn't say it was okay. This thread wasn't a moral issue. It was value based. What transpired between the OP and the seller opting out , I don't know. Apparently we will never know the value until the coin shows up on eBay or Craigslist, possibly.

It's not okay and the seller deserves a "YOU SUCK" award, okay ?

I wasnt trying to argue or anything and I agree, the seller sucks big time.
