ANA Day 6 - PNG Day

PNG day is a great excuse for a coin show! Get all the top dealers in a room with their best stuff and things are bound to happen! I prowled around for my little copper jewels, but everyone seemed to have big brash gold and silver rarities! So after picking up my Stack's puchases, I went to look at the Heritage lots. The selection for Indan Cents was good because of the Rollins Collection.

Bob Rollins was a big guy who ran a Motocycle shop in Pheonix, AZ. He loved Indian Cents and would buy, buy, buy - anything and everything that was rare and unusual if it was an Indian cent. He loved $3 gold pieces too, because they were nothing more than a gold Indian cent with a Flying Eagle cent reverse to him! The collection is huge! Three sets of MS Indians and two sets of Proofs plus the duplicates! I was very sad to hear of his passing, but these coins are a testament to his love of the series!

After looking at the Indian Cents, I looked at Ed Price's Dimes and Quarter Eagles. Very cool stuff!

On the floor, I bought a Netherlands 1/2 Crown from the 1500's for my collection from CRO. A few Indian Cents. Then at 4:00 set up my own stuff.

Yes, it used to be cheap. Not so much anymore! I love the Renaissance period.

Oh, I forgot to mention my Lunch time fiasco.

I saw Lakesamman and Boiler78 and chatted about the patterns in the Stack's sale. Then I decided to go outside (big mistake) and find a better lunch than the pizza and hot dogs they were serving. Went down two blocks to Legal Seafoods. Unfortunately that building is now vacant! So, I hurried over, sweating in the 95 degree heat and 100% humidity, to Edgar's for a cool seat and a lunch. Their air conditioning was broke! So I guzzeled my iced tea and went back to the convention center and had a hot dog and another iced tea.

I totally enjoyed lunch though, because I sat with David Akers and P. Scott Rubin and listened to Dave tell his stories about the Wilikinson collection and the $20 Indian. The great thing about these shows is that it is not about your intake, it's what you take in.

  • Thanks again for the daily reports- it makes coaching 2-a day football practices in Baton Rouge in the heat and humidity a little more bearable. I have really enjoyed coming home at night and reading your updates.

I found the above comment that to be very offensive. image
