This coin has lots of fire. I have not seen many like it (none, one maybe and I didn't know it). I seek them out even more so now than before. But there are so many different attractive skins an old coin can get.
This one was graded 58 by NGC! As you can see, it is really far too beaten up for that grade. It's in a PCGS 53 holder where it belongs!

Agreed on the grade, that tiara is way too worn down for the 55/58 grade. NGC tends to add a point for originality and to me that hurts the market on these. That said it looks like auction prices are showing just that. PCGS AU50/53 coins are starting to bring NGC AU55/58 prices.
Here's another picture where I emphasized the fiery luster around the date area. It is also lit in such a way that the hits are not nearly as apparent.
This is not juicing with photoshop; this is careful placement of lighting.
Unfortunately, I missed the focus a little bit too.
Next time this coin is out of the SDB, i'll have a film camera ready. I'll carefully shoot a roll or three of slide film and then scan it. That will give me 4k by 4k pictures of this coin. Suitable for enlarging!

I love dirty old colorful gold
Stunner.
A shame, really. Could have been such a nice overall coin.
