Private auction on ebay, what's so bad about it?

Ok touchy subject for some and I never seen to much wrong with it because of these reasons. Ok there are shills and there are shills. But on Teletrade, Heritage, local auctions, etc there are reserves no one knows about. Now we have new rules on ebay to protect sellers from sending spam to buyers that didn't win. So why is there so much fuss about Private auctions?
I just want to get a feel because I am thinking of using one for my Baltimore Ravens PSL's this year. Years ago I sold my 4 seats to a football player that asked me to change my auction to a Private from a open bid so that he wouldn't be spammed with better seats or offers through ebay's COntact Seller. He continued to buy them for a few years later and now is a Falcon. Share me your views.

I have bid on MANY private-listings.
I have asked sellers to revise their listings to "private,"
before I bid.
ALL of my BINs are private.
If I was doing coin/currency auctions, I would prolly go public, BUT would
revise to "private" on request.
I don't want people knowing what I buy, if I might want to resell it.
As for shills, I am not going to set a snipe for more than I want to pay.
A shill may run it up some, but I suspect the problem is overstated.
And, I usually don't buy stuff from folks I don't know/trust.
