The Mona Lisa round cracks me up. I could see a Monty Pythonesque skit with her singing a ditty with her lips. Her eyes looking at Da Vinci as he reaches over to touch her and a her right hand swiftly reaches over and slaps his!image -Dan

    image That's great.

The king's nose on the first piece reminded me of the sacrifice scene on top of the pyramid in the movie Apocalypto. The priests had some sort of turquoise nose pieces.

You mean Edward VII didn't reign in 1866? Are you sure?

Those are soooo bad that I'm actually interested. Maybe a new marketing ploy out of China.

    Those are great!
Charles has never looked so good!

That's not a bad ploy... I'd almost want a full set just to be able to look at em and crack myself up every now and then.

It's obvious you're not familiar with the Edward VII "Walleyed" variety, or the "Mona Lisa Wearing Wax Lips and Groucho Marx Fake Glasses and Nose".

That's understandable, though. They're only listed in the more arcane price guides.

And of course the seller has a classic "Maja Desnuda" for sale. The question is - which side is "hotter"?

    imageimage

I must admit to being very tempted to bid on at least one of these, for some bizarre reason. image

That's excellent Aethelred, you even learned Chinese dialect English. I have to go to Shanghai for a couple of weeks in September, so I'll see what is available then. Put in your orders early.

The Standard Catalog Uf Modern Bummers And Gaff Screwups (SCUMBAGS) should be available soon. SCUMBAG reservations are being taken for documentation experts, real and ghost writers... Pay will not be much (nothing) but the online version already started by Farthing is already worth a few laughs and guffaws. Thanks to all who have started and are contributing to help keeping SCUMBAG the one stop source for telling crap from shinola...

  • Is there no end of perfidy here? Mona Lisa's eyebrows are now correct on that last posting of her here. Is the artist reading our comments?
  • We've been seeing a lot of fakes in our shop lately coming from China is my guess. I've seen American Silver eagles, Morgan dollars, Bust dollars, Peace and Seated liberty dollars, Silver Pandas, U.S. Commemoratives etc... Most are easy to tell but on the one's that are suspect...I weigh them and see if it's close. Most of the fakes are way off!
