Induction weekends and the autograph experience

As you all know, I decided to make the trip to Cooperstown for some autos. All promoters who had guys signing had HORRIBLE set ups for obtaining autos. There was one outside (TJ's) that wasnt so bad. They could have improved if they presold the tickets though. Tuncliffe in was a madhouse and seemed a bit unorganized. Seventh Inning Stretch I wouldnt even dare to comment on because it was so bad. Where Rose was signing wasnt to bad. Anyway..my thoughts on the players...

Yogi Berra-what can you say? One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. I think he was smiling the entire time he was there.

Johnny Bench-this is my third time meeting Bench and I have always had a very nice experience with him. Ive heard otherwise but have never seen him be an a$$. Had a need to tell me that my rookie was a really nice card "Wow, this card had really nice borders". I had no idea he was a grader hehe

Brooks Robinson-definately one of the nicest players Ive ever met. Class act.

Jim Palmer-also was a real nice guy. He proceeded to educate me about his rookie card and how they made an error and had him as a LHP. Of course I already knew that but he seemed to enjoy telling me LOL

Don Sutton-another really nice guy. Good experience with him.

Luis Aparicio-didnt say much or look up much. I dont think he's very good in english? I just took him for a quiet and subdue type of guy. I didnt take it as him being rude. And if you thought Rizzuto was a small guy, you should meet Aparicio. I think he may be smaller than what Rizzuto was.

Pete Rose-he was in a really good mood. Said thank you to everyone and was all smiles. I think it was because he had his gf who looked to be about 20 years old and minimum DD in a really tight shirt and painted on mini. I'd be smiling too.

Harmon Killebrew-the guy is all smiles. Another really nice guy.

Gaylord Perry-I think the guy is Santa Claus. I describe him as a very jolly fellow LOL Very nice.

Graig Nettles- Ive heard some bad stories but he was fine on Friday

Dwight Gooden-really nice guy too. I enjoyed meeting him

Tom Seaver-I think he had a bad round of golf before going to sign cuz he didnt seem too pleasant. I was not shy about handing my card to him...but he literally snatched it out of my hands. It took me a bit off guard. Im just happy he didnt rip or crease the card.

Mickey Rivers-I wasnt going to get him but I wasnt doing anything else but waiting around so I went ahead and got his. What a character! Has one big gold tooth in the front, a red studded NY hat, and just loved to talk and take pictures. I got a real kick out of him.

Willie McCovey-didnt say much, didnt look up much...a guy in front of me asked him to use his pen. McCovey looked at him and put his hands up like the guy was holding a big snake and he was scared. I dont know what his health issues are but I took it as he was very scared of germs.

Frank Robinson...oh boy. Well, his makes his grand entrance being very loud "Im here! Ive made it!" and he seemed like he was in a good mood but yet wanting all the attention. We get our tickets and Mike (JustMichael) is right behind me. I turn to Mike and say that I'll try not to PO Frank before he gets to him LOL I get to Frank and hand him my cards and ask if he will use my pen. He leans back, looks at me and says "I could use your pen but I dont have to". Ohhh here we go. I could tell he was challenging me. I just said "You are right, you dont have to use my pen but would appreciate it". He smiles, takes the pen, and then starts saying stuff...I have no idea what he was saying because I was watching him squeeze the RC in his hand like you do with a deck of cards! I thought for SURE he was going to end up bending it or creasing it. Then I would have been PO'd myself! Thankfully, no damage was done. I was happy to get away from Frank LOL But the way he handled my card made me VERY nervous, especially after I had spent 185 bucks on the thing!

There were so many other guys there. I wish I had gotten Marichal. Seemed like a real happy and fun guy. He was very pleasant to everyone. Boggs was so so. Kept his head down a lot of the time. Morgan seemed like a nice guy but Im not much of a fan. Sparky Anderson also seemed real nice.

As I was going to get Brooks' auto the line went behind Earl Weaver. He was just sitting there, no one else in line for him, no one talking to him. So I bent down and said "Hi Mr Weaver, can I ask you a question" He obliged...I asked him(kind of half joke/half serious) if the Yankees ever contacted him to manage in NY and steal him out of Baltimore. He told me they absolutely did and in fact it was the last time that Yogi was the Yanks manager. After the Yanks let Yogi go, they called Weaver. I was shocked by his answer! Was funny though. He seemed to get a chuckle out of it also. Weaver was a real nice guy.

Saw plenty of other players but didnt really get to observe much else.

There were a couple of interesting Mays stories...I'm beat...if Mike doesnt pop on and tell the stories then I will get to those later...one is actually quite insane but I have to get some shut eye right now.

I don't really have much to add since I have never met any professional players, but I really enjoy hearing the stories about the different players. I always wanted to meet Yogi Berra since he seems like such a care free guy.
