OFFICIAL 2008 Kentucky Wildcats quest for a better bowl game; looks like another Music City Bowl. :(

I know it may be a little early, but I figured to go ahead and kick off our quest for a third straight bowl game (and perferably a better bowl game, perhaps a BCS one?) this year for the 2008 Kentucky Wildcats! I know most of the college football magazines and such are not giving us a chance but you know what? They probably didn't give us a chance last year either and I have no doubt that as long as we play hard and eat our Campbell's Chunky Soup, we will be in BCS or SEC title contention and of course, hopefully a big upset or two. And what better way of starting our season than another victory against Loserville?

Just my opinion, but I think at best 8-4, at worst 6-6.

If you go 4-0 into the Alabama game, then you have a chance at 8-4, with a very outside chance of 9-3. I'd say
9-3 would take a miracle, and 7-5 is probably where you guys end up.

I'm glad to see you guys so far giving the Cats far more respect than most of the college football mags. Also, I think if we can no longer play Indiana every year in football, why not go ahead and make Western Kentucky an annual contest (both football and basketball)? I think that'd be the next best thing. You guys seem to think Alabama will be major tough this year; if so why are they not pre-season ranked? Other than those two, couldn't we have come up with better inter-conference rivals than a couple No Name U's?

And in particular, don't count us out on Tennessee. We came so close last year I think it'll just make us all the more hungrier to get it right this year. I'm especially pleased we're playing both them and Loserville on their home fields. It's a lot of fun to get to play in front of their fans and then wipe the smug looks on their faces after we show 'em we weren't the Mickey Mouse club they thought we were.

BTW, I think it's way cool to follow our football program as well as our b-ball program. I mean, I'm always saying I like the Cats better when they're the underdogs, so... And the great thing about college football is that you just never know if the stars will align just right for that big upset!

Also, I intend to try to make it to at least one of my HS football games as well. I was student manager for them my senior year; we were only 4-6 that year but we pull off a MAJOR upset of our arch rival on their homecoming night (and they were ranked #6 in state no less!), plus we came up one loss short of city-county championship also.

Speaking of Alabama, didn't we pull off some huge win against them back in the late 90s that was our first win against them since the 1930s or something (I forget the details exactly)?

Also, am I the only UK fan in this congregation who thinks Western Kentucky would be an excellent annual contest, both football and b-ball? I mean, if we don't play Clown U (Indiana) anymore for football, I think Western would be the next best thing. At least that'd be better than Norfolk State. Seriously, are Norfolk State even Division I? Sheesh, they probably couldn't even beat Daviess County High School!!

Still care to ponder about my earlier statements or use that $20 towards a bet on the 'Bama game? Alabama played their best game in at least 3 years, I'm hoping they keep that intensity throughout the season. They have an incredibly tough schedule this year, and I think they are a year away still from being a serious championship contender.

I would take you up on your offer but I already got some bets outstanding. For example my bet with a co-worker regarding the Presidential election. But still, I can't wait for us to have a crack at you guys. Do you recall our famous 1997 upset of Bama at Kentucky where we tore down the goal posts because it was our first Bama win since what, the 1920s?

Florida will not rule the SEC this year IMO.
There are five teams that are in the running so far.

Auburn
Georgia
Florida
LSU
Alabama

Let's not be silly and put one of them above the other. We know how tough the SEC can be. No real dominant team here IMO.

Just a couple more Mickey Mouse clubs to go and then we get into the real action. If we're lucky, we should crack the top 25 by then too.

Boy we sure survived a scare against Middle Tennessee, didn't we? But a win is a win is a win. Next up is Western Kentucky (which isn't too far away from where I live BTW). Then after that we get to the really good stuff.

Can you believe the SEC has five teams in the top ten?

MUCH better performance this time. 41-3 big win against Western Kentucky to put us once again at a 4-0 start! But we can't get too c-cky though. It's going to be much tougher from here on out, but I have no doubt that we will prevail! I am very much looking forward to us pulling off yet another shocker against soon-to-be ex-#2 ranked Alabama. And for those of you snickering and laughing saying we've got no chance, well, that's what you said about us against LSU last year.

Be afraid Alabama. Be very, very afraid.

A pretty frustrating loss against Alabama to say the least. I mean, 'Bama made all the mistakes in the world (including that near fumble recovery near the end) and we couldn't take advantage of them like we should have. But still, to come within a field goal of the second place team in the country on their field, you've definetly gotta like our chances in the remaining games! We still got three top 25 teams in four games coming up so we got plenty of chances to score some upsets. Once we take care of business against Arkansas and South Carolina of course.

Screw the Music City Bowl; I think we have an excellent shot at getting into a much better bowl game this year!

After letting the South Carolina game slip away (again), it looked like for sure we'd also be done for against Arkansas, as we were down 20-7 with less than three minues left. But Kentucky scored two touchdowns to come back and win 21-20!

Next up for the Cats is our chance to score our big upset for the year, when we take on fifth place Florida and the defending Heisman Trophy champ Tim Tebow. But we'll be ready for 'em!

Well, we just barely missed upseting Georgia, and since our previous two seasons had eight wins each (and that's the best we can do now at this point), it looks like another no-name bowl for us again this year. But still, wouldn't that be something if we could pull off that Tennessee win this year after coming so close last year?

PS: I did lose that election bet, which I doubled to $40 a couple days before the election.

I'd say beating TN would be our best hope. Seeing as how we haven't beat them in quite some time and we came so close last year.

Well folks, it looks like we'll have to settle for another Music City or some other no-name bowl this year. And you know what really sucks balls? With the exception of the Florida blowout, we lost all our other games by a TD or less, so had we just tried a little harder (and ate our Chunky Soup ), we could've been as much as (gasp!) 10-1 and be SEC East title contenders by now! So close, yet so far...

And is if that wasn't bad enough, my high school football team had the BEST record in several years (let's just say we're more a cross country school than a football school; incidentally, our XC team did in fact just win another state title) at 9-2, but wasted literally the season of a lifetime on some no name high school in the first round of the playoffs. Oh yeah, and then there's that no name school that beat our basketball team on Opening Night.

All in all, a very blue weekend for Kentucky indeed.
