Ebay offering stores for 6 months free

I received a email from ebay offering me a store for 6 months free. I have never considered using the store format because as I understand it, their stores are a dying breed. I have been running regular weekly auctions for a lot of modern widgets I wish to sell and look at this as a opportunity to sell these coins for less fees. What am I missing here? Is this a no brainer or a waste of time?

Six months of what free? Stores have a monthly fee (whether or not you sell anything) + listing fees for everything newly listed + final value fees for everything sold. I'd be surprised to hear that eBay was offering 6 months free on all of those fees.

As I understand it though, the fees through your store are less than those charged for regular auctions.
If you started a $50 item at $0.99 as an auction, you'd pay $0.10 listing fee + $3.06 fvf = $3.16
If you listed a $50 item in your store, you'd pay $0.05 listing fee + $5.00 fvf = $5.05
<< <i>The listing fees are lower ($0.03 to $0.10 for stores, $0.10 to $4.00 for auctions), the final value fees are higher (starting at 12% for stores, 8.75% for auctions).
If you started a $50 item at $0.99 as an auction, you'd pay $0.10 listing fee + $3.06 fvf = $3.16

That's true, but don't forget that it will be listed in the store for 30 days, versus the typical 7 day auction.
bob
They are shorting you 3 weeks! I'd complain!

That's why it depends on the kind of stuff you sell. If you can start your auctions at 99 cents and count on getting an acceptable final bid, auctions are cheaper. If, on the other hand, you sell the kind of stuff that fewer buyers are looking for and you can't afford to start them out at 99 cents because a $50 item will likely end at $15, then stores will possibly work better.
I was offered a store also. I trashed the letter. I have refused to list anything on EBAY for about the last 6 months. Before that I was selling about $1000 plus a month. Even thought I was small time, they tried to get me to be a power seller. I declined.
I can only hope that I am home when they place that telephone call to me. Then I can tell them how I feel. I always seem to miss their phone calls.
I think there are others out there who feel the same way. Those who have been driven off Ebay since they implemented their selling cost increases, mandatory paypal requirements and ill thought out feedback changes.
I just cant give them my business and sell there at this time.
Things were different in 1997 when I first joined EBAY. It would be nice to see them go back towards their roots and get rid of some of their stupid rules, cut their selling costs, and bring back some of the fun that was the old EBAY.
