Found on floor at Fred Meyer

I realize this is not a coin but at the store the other day I picked up off the floor a token that said Tax commission Sales tax on the upper half, and on the bottom it said Token State of Washington.

It is the size of a nickel. Appears to be aluminum and aluminum color.

I found it in Vancouver, Wa.

Does anyone have any thought or ideas on this?

Jim

Sounds like a Washington State Sales Tax Token. I don't know anything about these, but I googled the info you provided and found a few things.

Here's one link... Link to Sales Tax Tokens

It's a chain of grocery stores. In other states, they go by the name of Ralph's, Kroger, Smith's, Fry's, etc.

I figured Fred Meyer was a coin shop.......

The token is exactly like the one in the URL you provided, except it is the same image (as shown) in the picture.

In looking again it differs in that it says Tax commission in the upper outer rim and directly underneath sales tax, and directly under the whole it says token and on the lower outer rim State of Washington.

Sorry I don't have a picture but as I said it looks just like the picture in the URL exept the above. And the same thing on BOTH sides.

PS: I don't know if the link can be reached from below but if you go to the 2nd message frome lope 208 you can get it there.

Why would a tax token find its way to the floor of Freddie's

I have quite a few of these from various states along with some cool Bus Tokens. They aren't worth anything but it's a cheap way to collect.

Good theory. Probably the correct one.

  • Actually, I was thinking coinstar too. Can't remember if it was around the coinstar or not.
