It's worth it's own Thread: A second PCGS NY State quarter is MS69!

And I was so sure there would NEVER be a second one made! Dang! Two weeks into the bet and I've lost already.
Well, I'm humbled. Right when I begin to think I've learned it all- info. like this proves I'm not even close!
Congratulations on the owner of the second NY PCGS MS69.
NO WAY will I predict if a third is forthcoming!

  • I can't help but wonder if whoever made these two pieces sandbagged until the first got sold. Then magically another pops up! Probably trying to get it out before the next pop report shows that there are even more.
  • Is this really possible? With the advent of the on-line pop reports, how much time does one have before the report comes out? I assume it is updated more often than the quarterly pop report.

Tonelover: See my comment under the companion thread running on the new moderns made this week. In short, a nice quantity of exceptional "modern" coins were "made" this week, including not -1-, but -2- PCGS-MS68FS Jefdersons!!!! And, if anyone could EVER accurately predict that they would get PCGS to grade a second MS69 state quarter (same state no less), they should be doing something other than slabbing state quarters!! image

Pop1: My personal experience is these "pops" come out super quick these days. Indeed, I have not even been told that my (4) Goodacres I submitted are ready for pick up and they already appear on the online report (and Supercoin has pointed out that I did not make an MS69 image )!! Since this NY(p) was made yesterday, it should be interesting to see how long it takes to report the coin on line. We can all watch for that. image Wondercoin.

    Wondercoin,
Were these coins made during the PCGS get together, or just regular submissions (in which case you should not have them yet)?

  • Online Pop Report was updated today and already shows NY-P MS69 Pop as 2. Delaware in MS68 is now Pop 5, Tennessee D MS68 Pop 3

So, now who thinks we won't being seeing more of these? If one is interested in putting together a nice set of MS68 (and now MS69?) State Quarters, it would seem it might be best to wait until the pops stabilize a little bit.

So, did the mint start cranking out higher quality coins all of a sudden, or are there more of these out there from the older state quarters waiting to be slabbed?

    That being said...
even if there are a handful of these MS69 New Yorks (or other states), that is still pretty impressive - an MS69 coin intended for circulation. Pretty Neat!

The pop report was upgraded within the last hour, as I had just checked a bit ago and the numbers were not upgraded. It is worth noting that the number of MS68 NY quarters has dropped by one (43 to 42) while the MS69 (1 to 2)went up by one.

    So who made this quarter?

  • And just think what if all the billions of state quarters when straight from the mint to PCGS instead of into the Coke machine. I wonder what the populations would be then?? Do You think Coke would make a machine that took PCGS slabed state quarters?
  • I'm more amazed that a second PA-P graded in ms68 has been graded. It's been almost 2 years since the first one of those was slabbed. The second NY-p in ms69 took only 2 weeks to appear.

A year from now, will there be more NY-P's in ms69 or PA-P's in ms68? image
  • LOL!!

Now what are they worth Mitch?? Not pop 1 one anymore!!!

And you said these things were rare! Ha! They'll be all over in a matter of months. All of the 68's will be cracked out, and because they're is no difference, I predict the ms69 pop will be 10 before the end of the year!

Kyle: Just also guess the Goodacre Sac pop in MS69 and enter this in the contest Gerry is runing and you could win close to $400-$500 in prizes if you are right. Just PM me or Gerry to officially enter image Wondercoin.

Kyle: You are officially in the contest! Just curious, care to explain how the contest guess you just made on state quarters is so different than the statement in this thread (I will not reveal your guess)? When the "money is on the line", I see your true feelings imageimage Wondercoin.

  • As Mister "T" would say...I pity the poor fool (who bought the first one)! I know most of the people on this forum don't want to heart, but I'll continue to stand by my "Consumer Alerts"...perfectomania as far as these ultra-modern coins are concerned will go the way of the mid-17th Century tulip bulb mania. The promoters and makers of these coins won't have egg on their faces when the madness ends -- just enormous bank accounts. Unfortunately the "retail" consumer will for having fallen for the hype and promotion...and his wallet will be a lot lighter too!

Another MS69 State Quarter, huh? This ain't the end and you can take that to the bank!!!

  • Mitch,

Had a real cool deal drop in my lap that took precedent over having fun with the guys at the PCGS get together. I will be at my table at the Long Beach show from dealer set up through the end of the day on Saturday so I'll see you there.
