Do You Get Offended From RIDICULOUS BIN? Or Do You Simply Attribute It To Ignorance?

Every now and then, I'll troll the BIN/Best Offers for a good deal. 99.9% of the price are above the "going price." No big deal, e.g. a card will be selling for around $100.00 and the BIN/Best Offer price will be $150.00/$200.00. Like I said, no big deal.

And then I'll see a card where the consistent going price is around $100.00 and the BIN/Best Offer price is ~$500.00/$1,000.00. And when I see that, I have to admit that I'm somewhat offended by that. Now I understand the "there's a sucker born every minute argument", but I would just about equate that to the seller asking me to pay $100.00 for a can of soda or $200.00 for a loaf bread.

Am I a sucker? Could be. But even I'm not stupid enough to pay those prices for a can of soda or a loaf of bread. And then I think, we'll maybe he's just ignorant, or new to the hobby. Who knows.

  • I think sometimes - maybe a small percentage but sometimes - a person just doesn't want to part with the card but if someone offers to buy it for that price, it becomes the 'can't say no' price.
We had a garage sale not too long ago and my wife made me put out a piece of furniture... a beautiful and sturdy TV stand that could hold a 27 inch TV, DVD, VCR, game system (the works). But it's butt ugly and she made me put it out. I said okay, but only if someone will pay me $50 for it. Totally worth about $10 bucks but someone thought it was just what they needed and handed over the cash.
I didn't want to part with it at all. But I couldn't say no.
    Same deal... sometimes?

  • I assume it's sellers hoping for the unknowledgable gift shopper. I've had family members buy me things and I know they way over paid. But, the thought is nice...

I know it shouldn't bother me but it does. It's like the guy who pulls out right in front of you. "What are you thinking dude???"

That makes me mad as well. What really pisses me off, is the idiots that speed up to pass me on the highway when I'm cruising along in the "slow" lane. They then proceed to cut in front of me and drive slower then I'm going making me have to pass them image
  • I think it's often people just putting out stuff that they don't really want to sell, but will part with if somebody overpays for it.

Kind of like the "Make Me Move" feature on Zillow for houses. Everybody puts a price on their house at least 50% over what it is actually worth, because of course they don't really want to move.

I thought that kind of stuff ended in the 70's in the US. Apparently it still happens frequently in England though.

I bothers me also. I was just looking at a card with a buy it now for 1k, and another with the same grade but not as nice for 2.5k.

I feel like emailing the guy and saying... KNOCK IT OFF image

I think it is the seller's card and they can ask any price they want for it. If it is too high I don't buy it, they are paying ebay to list it so they are just wasting their money. If someone buys a card you think is overpriced, it does not make the buyer a sucker- just look at all the suckers who paid $10 for Josh Hamilton Traded Autos a couple years ago, they would only bring $4-7 if someone listed them in an auction. I think there are more rediculous prices on some ebay auction closing bids then I see on BINs that sold.

I never care what other folks charge.

I ONLY care how much I collect.

I often use high BINs because folks eventually buy the stuff.

EBAY claims there are about 35K folks on the site every minute
    of everyday. Good fishing odds.

Getting offened by someone elses "ad" is useless and unproductive. Just move on! Why waste the mental energy?

Or are you more frustrated because a card you want is being dangled in front of you with an absurd price? I know how that feels, but I can't say that it ever leaves me feeling "offended."

    Nope.

If someone bites, they're not out any more than the guys spending hundreds or thousands on packs or grading fees for cards that will be worth a small fraction after they're opened/slabbed.

Useless, unproductive, waste of mental energy is right. Working to be offended by prices on cards when he really should be working on figuring how to afford his very own SMR.

I just laught at the moron who set the BIN if it is totally out of whack.

I am putting the set of 2007 SP Authentic By The Letter Football autographs of the Patriots.

Included are Heath Evans, Ty Warren and Matt Light. They place manufactured letter patches autographed by the player on the card. Pretty cool I think.

So I am collecting the last names EVANS, LIGHT, WARREN and the letters to spell out PATRIOTS.

I have won some as low as $5 + Shipping buy the vast majority sell for $8-$12 + shipping. I see people with $50+ BIN's on these cards. They will never sell IMO.

On the other hand people with BIN/OBO have some sense. One guy had a BIN/OBO of $35. I sent him a link with the last 5 uactions that ended and offerend him average price. He took it.

One guy had a BIN/OBO of $14 and I offered $10 and was auto declined.
