Seeing where it is a SPORTS CARDS & MEMORABILIA FORUM maybe you didn't stick to the topic of my post.

How about saving the apology and going back and editing your posts with some SPORTS CARDS & MEMORABILIA that you are proud to own.
  • In an effort to get the thread back on track, I bought some raw 1972 Topps baseball from 44Magnum. They were in the only package I got today and my first one in almost a week. No scans available but they were all very sharp.

Nice jerseys. The thing I've always wanted to know is how is it determined whether the jersey has been worn in a game or not? I really know nothing about jerseys so any insight would be helpful in case I ever come across any.

Lee most game jerseys I have come across are from silent auctions where the proceeds are for charity. The team organization will hold the event and issue a certificate. Mostly for active players on the roster or from another local team.

Lee, not sure if this is what you're looking for, but saw it and thought you might like to read it. PoppaJ

The jersey are all from teams that have a contract with MeiGray. They sew in registration tags before the season begins, then each Reg # is recorded by a team representative before each game. It is all tracked on a daily basis. Long story short, at the end of each season they know which dates a particular jersey was worn. They then publish a population report that includes this info. A jersey from the 1st set usually goes from Oct 1st to Jan 1st, 2nd set from Jan 1st-march 15th, 3rd set from Mar 16th through the playoffs. The exact dates vary from team to team depending on schedule etc. but this is the gist of it. It is a pretty revolutionary system for the hobby, and seems to work very well, taking a lot of the he said, she said stuff out of the picture.

BTW, some awesome centering on the 68s Goye!

Wow, that's a great system. Only in hockey or other sports as well?

They have contracts with the Texas Rangers, NY football Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, and now have added some NBA teams. It really takes the guess work out of the equation.

<< <i>Would you rather have your card a PSA 8 or PSA 9 OC? >>

Give me the 8 anytime. I think it is a nicer card overall. Some 9OCs are really OC and very unappealing, even though all 8s are different at least they meet the centering "standards" for the grade most of the time. Now if we are talking PSA 7 or PSA 9 OC, then I would probably take the 9OC, unless it is hideous.
  • Finally !!!! Cost me though.
