1827 Capped Bust Half Dollar -- Thoughts/Comments...

Here is one of the beauties of walking down to the mailbox on a warm summer afternoon; the waiting is over.
This 1827 Capped Bust Half Dollar is an O-114 Variety, (201-500 known to exist -- R-3), and appears to be in EF-40/XF-45 condition with my personal opinion leaning more toward XF-45, IMHO, this baby was/is HAMMERED!!! Any thoughts or observations would be greatly appreciated.

<< <i>Interesting that the fourth star down on the right is less worn than the others. Is this because the die has a shallower star in that position? >>
It was a pretty archaic process back before 1836 (when Steam Power began). The dies were different for each year, hand made, and annealed by an old fashiohned BlackSmith. That's one of the reasons there are over 450 known varieties in the series...

Wow, looks like a pretty daunting task to find them all.
As Ben said, a different time and different technology.

It is a lot of fun too!
It really becomes difficult when you get over 400 or so...
That is one of the reasons I like Bust Quarters, only 96 die marriages!

Sweet coin. You're getting good at this. Man, you are an aggressive collector - how long did it take you to amass your CBH collection? Seems like it wasn't all that long.
