Anyone have any info on the missing edge lettering Pres. $1's?

I.E: George Washinton $1 missing edge lettering mintage? est.
John Adams $1 missing edge lettering mintage? est.

Also, are there any new plain edge $1's out?

  • Washington 150,000
    Adams 5,000 to 7,000

There are no new discoveries for the last 3 presidents and even if 10 or 15 did pop up it would be hard to get top dollar because the grading services would probably never put them in their population reports and therefore most potential buyers would have a hard time paying big bucks without knowing how many are out there. The Adams smooth edges is where the big bucks will be in a few years, but this is only my speculation. Right now there is 4 on ebay and about 70 washington smooth edges. Also the reason for the washington and adams errors was because the Mint was still integrating their production line and once that was finished the errors stopped. The adams double struck are also a nice coin with an est mintage of 35,000 to 40,000.

There are Jefferson Missing Edge Dollars as well.

    PCGS

    888 Non First Day Issue
    4 First Day Issue

    Total 892
  • Sumuroda, the number was derived from extensive research I have done on these presidential errors. In one of the major coin magazines last year it was confirmed by the Mint that a bin probably missed the edge stamping process and from what I have a learned a bin holds about 150,000 presidential dollars. Also PCGS and NGC have slabbed over 57,000 Washington Missing Edges and this accounts for about 40% of the projected 150,000, so this number of 150,000 makes sense since you would expect about 40% to be slabbed at this point and furthermore this 40% is in line with what you usually see on ebay of raws relative to pcgs and ngc slabbed Washington missing edges.

Also here is the approximate combined total populations from pcgs and ngc for other famous errors.

Wisconsin Leafs (up and down) 15,600
    Washington Missing Edge 57,611
    Adams Double Edge 10,100
    Adams Missing Edge 3,900

Now here are the approximate overall mintages of famous errors that have made it into circulation along with a few other hot coins.

    1909-s V.D.B. cent-------------484,000
    1937 3 legged------------------20,000
    1955 double die----------------24,000
    1995-W Eagle-------------------30,195
    2004 Wisconsin leaf errors----35,000
    2007 Washington Missing Edge ---150,000
    2007 Adams Missing Edge--------7,000
    2007 Adams Double Edge--------35,000

I've been recently putting my money into the Adam's missing edges and double edges because of their relative scarcity not only to other presidential errors, but also to the likes of the 55 double die and 3 legged buffalo. There always seems to be an abundance of leaf errors on ebay along with Washington missing edges, however there always seems to be very few adams double edges for sale which shows me this is where the most bullish sentiment is- if sellers expect a coin to go up in value they will likely hang on to it and if they expect it to go down they will likely dump them. For example, right now I count 7 adams double edges for sale on ebay, 5 adam's missing edges, 23 wisconsin leafs, and about 58 Washington missing edges.
