do you guys think that the alpha emerald and beta lotus are a hoax? can we check from the psa cert. numbers?

I checked the psa certs of some of his cards and they checked out... but doesn't mean he couldn't have just gotten the pics from some other source. I sent a message to him asking him if he could give me a pic of the back of one of the cards, and recommending that he put a picture of each of the cards up with his hand in it or something to show he actually had them in his possession (didn't accuse him of fraud or anything but did tell him that since it seemed he was new to ebay that he should be aware that people would be suspicious that it was a fake auction). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he gets back to me and everything checks out, because a black bordered PSA 10 Timetwister was the next thing I was looking to buy (although I would've preferred Alpha to Beta), which is among his cards up for sale... so if he sends me pics or anything that checks out I'll let you guys know so you guys can go after the Lotus and Moxen (or beat me to the Twister... heh). But if he doesn't get back to me I'll stay away.

If you guys honestly believe a brand new ebay member would just appear on ebay and place almost 10,000 worth of high end items

with no proof of ownership and 0 feedback and your willing to pay him.......

I dont mean to sound rude........

but you deserve to be screwed over for not doing research and using common sense.....especially when your talking high end items......

and for the record he will probably respond to the questions and give you pictures of the backs, which will also be from someone else and a different card,

but i guarantee you he wont provide real PROOF...........none of them EVER DO!

Well obviously being careful is best... but I have gotten some really, really good prices on otherwise very expensive items on ebay before from zero feedback sellers who were holding onto the item, but for whatever reason needed some quick money and needed to sell, having never used ebay before but deciding that it was their best option. If he can give a picture of himself holding the cards like I recommended he do in my message to him (I didn't specifically ask for one myself because I didn't want to seem like I was accusing him of fraud if it turned out he was legit) and the PSA cert number on the case is the same, then I'd be tempted to believe it could be legit. Even then though I wouldn't actually pay him if I won unless I got further proof (i.e. a name and some indication that he lives in Tempe as opposed to say Botswana)... and if it STILL turned out to be a scam after all of that, well if I can spend the money and time on cards I figure I can spend the money and time exploring my legal options.

So I definitely want to be very careful, but at the same time I don't want to 100% dismiss the possibility that he's just a collector who got into the game in it's very early days, maybe decided to get the cards graded a decade ago then sort of put them out of mind, and now he just found them in his bedroom closet or something and decided it was time to cash in. Unlikely, but it's worth seeing if he can give any proof that pans out.

But yeah, I DID send the message almost 24 hours ago and no reply yet, so it's probably a scam and probably also a bit naive to think it could've been anything else. But it doesn't take much time to ask for proof, so I figure doing that at least is worth the effort, since once in awhile there will be the legit one who just honestly has no idea what he's doing when it comes to ebay and you'll get a great deal by bidding when everyone else is too nervous to.

I think the point Rudy was trying to make was that it is extremely unlikely that someone who has never sold anything on eBay would put up several very expensive items that are as rare as hen's teeth. The PSA pops of his 4 10's are very low, and I think we can account for most of them here on the boards, so I would be surprised if the cards were really his.

Perhaps... but I'm not that much of a gambler

Ah, I didn't even know you could track stuff like how many of a certain grade of a card there was out there. I had seen the pop thing mentioned, but hadn't had a chance to look into it yet. That being the case then I definitely see the point that these are obvious fakes... I guess in this case my ebay experience in other areas doesn't help make a judgment! Well, sorry everyone for writing a lot without being fully informed, although I always seem to like to write a lot so I can't really guarantee that I won't do it again in the future.

And yes, he still hasn't gotten back to me. Hmmm!

The cert numbers on some of those cards look familiar? (not to mention, oh I don't know, the exact same pictures ) I've reported it to ebay.
