The "Share Your 7070" thread

I'm hoping that various folks will take the time to post pictures of their Dansco 7070 albums, in whatever state of completion they are in. I'll start...

As of 7/17/2008...

So far, I'm a little light on the 'busts' and a little heavy on the gold. It's fun to look for nice examples of each type. Or in certain cases, to look for acceptible, affordable examples.

Too bad the pictures aren't large enough so that you can see details in the coins. Some are very nice up close.

[edit] And now RYK is gonna make me reshoot and crop so that my awful pictures look better.

I just got the empty album in the mail today. I also have a set of old Whitman bookshelf albums, "Small Coins" and "Large Coins", which are way more comprehensive compared to the 7070. I'm thinking of putting my clipped type set into the Whitman books, and doing a Circ Cam™ set in the 7070, I'll be sure to post pictures whatever I decide.

Here's the pictures I have of the actual Dansco and also additions (or upgrades) that I need to crack out and put in the album. Currently I'm looking at a nice bust quarter and trying to find a barber that I like.

    No test.

I had the raw gold coins and did not have anything better to do with them.

Of course!! Doesn't everyone have a handful of nice, raw gold coins lying around with nothing better to do. image

    Very impressive showing!

It seems like the Dansco 7070 goes back only so far and doesn't include everything-but I want one of them.

How would I go about getting one of those?

Mine would only get about half full right off the bat, actually a little less. (with NO gold-I don't have a single gold coin)

By my count there are 85 slots-is that right?

Let's bring this one back to the top!! Lots of great sets here. Here's mine in progress. As mentioned here (Cracker's Remorse 7070 Thread) I'm still not sure whether it'll be completed or not.

I suggest there should be a "7070 Club".

I think it would be neat to see. I would join, even though I don't really collect the 7070 anymore. I have fond memories of it.

Don't go electing me or asking me to start it, though. I just think if somebody felt so inclined, it would be cool. image

I wouldn't be embarrassed, kid. Heck, you're young. None of us (or very few of us) were rich when we were young. (A lot of us, like yours truly, still ain't anywhere close to it even halfway through life, haha).

That is the cool thing about type sets. You can pick your grade level and go with the most common dates. Even in low grades the 7070 is challenging, but need not be hideously expensive. The first time I did it, my early types were just Good and better. Second time I shot for Fine or better on the earlier stuff.

Each budget range has nice coins (for the grade) and lower-end ones. If you select a well matched set and pick the best quality you can get in your personal pricerange, you're doin' great. I have enjoyed both the monster high-end 7070 sets folks have posted, gold pages and all, and to be honest, I have enjoyed seeing some of those VG-ish sets just as much.

Take Barber halves, for instance. Can't say why, but my favorite grade in those is a strong VG, as close as you can get to Fine on a VG budget. VG10 Barber halves (and the smaller Barbers, too) are just appealing to me. If I ever were to collect Barber halves by date, instead of just needing one for a type set, I would shoot for VG10s on a G-VG budget.

The VG-10 must be a sort of inner instinct or something.
Well, my 7070 hasn't gone by grade yet.
I am just putting whatever I can find or that is available here in Kuwait (there is only 1 dealer that sells coins professionally and specialises in Irani Silver coins (which is very expensive) but occasionally has some US coin.
My 7070 ranges from VG~AU, maybe the moderns are MS-62 or so.

If we do start a "7070 Club", or this thread becomes the de facto 7070 thread, which I am all in favor of, I might respectfully suggest that we limit people to posting one coin (or at least just one row) at a time, instead of whole pages. This thread is probably already lost to the poor dialup folks. I had enough trouble with it on satellite DSL just now.

We could number the rows and compare Row Ones, Row Twos, and so on.

I'm surprised there aren't more (any?) 1921 Peace Dollars in 7070's.

I was a little disappointed that the 1921 Morgan and Peace were not considered their own types entirely, but then there are space limitations to consider, especially on the larger coins.

I abandoned my 7070 when I had about a dozen holes left. I moved all of the coins into 2x2s and binder pages. There were many types that I wanted to include but couldn't, as they didn't have holes.

You can view my type set in my sig line.
