The Most Popular "Classic" Coin for Collectors...

I am in a posting mood tonite, so lookoutimage

I believe that CoinValues did a recent article that listed the Morgan Dollar as the #1 popular coin amongst collectors. I also believe that the Lincoln Wheatback was listed in the top 5 and maybe top 3. I was a little disappointed and surprised that the IHC did not make the top ten.

As of right now, based upon recent and rapid price appreciation I believe that the #1 collected "classic" coin is the Lincoln Wheat Cent.

What say you?

Based on the collections I've purchased, I'd guess that the Lincoln Cent is the most popular.

I'd say it would be hard for me to consider a Lincoln Cent as a classic coin (in the classic vs. modern sense)....Wheat or Memorial. But that's a different argument...

I agree with CoinValues that the Morgan is the most popular.

Close race between Morgans and Lincolns for number 1....and I don't collect either of them! Walkers, indians, and buffalos I'm sure are all in the top 10, and I do collect those!

I would guess the top three are Morgans, Lincolns, and Buffalos in that order.

    Morgans

    Lincolns

    Buff's

In that order, as Shamika stated

Based on the decent prices Barber everything seems to bring on the bay, I would say Barber coinage has to rate up there somewhere.

Just look at the number of registry sets that gives you a good idea- Morgans are most popular there.

Peace dollars are becoming more popular due to the high run up on Morgan prices. The list of collections in the Registry shows this.

Morgans are probably the most popular, but my personal favorite are Bust Quarters image

    lincoln
    buffs
    indian cents
    morgans

i just don't believe morgans are #1 for collectors, but dealers may deal in 'em #1

Morgans are the most popular now. One-hundred and twenty years ago the government couldn't give them away.
