Beware: 1878 VAM-166 on teletrade (Item 1836 in auction 2258) is misattributed

I was looking at tonight's teletrade auction and one of the coins is incorrectly identified. Item 1836 in auction 2558 is labeled as a VAM-166 on the holder. It is not.

I realized we need to update the VAMworld page ;-)

If sold as a VAM-166, someone is going to be very upset with the misattribution as a true VAM-166 is rare and expensive. Realizing teletrade only reported what is on the IGC holder, I emailed them but wanted others aware.

VAM 165 is usually the one that's misattributed as 166. I'll have to check at home, since I'm having trouble vieweing the lot right now.

As one of the many people who still need a VAM 166 (don't we all?), I was planning to either win the coin or make Joe and John work very hard ($) to get it!

Teletrade pulled it. Good for them. I expect it was a bit of a difficult decision for them to make when they have a certified coin and they are not VAM specialists. I'm impressed.

I have seen TT do this a couple of years ago. They had a coin labeled 1896-O (micro O) PCGS XF40, and I notified them that the coin was mis-attributed by PCGS, and was not a micro O. They had their "expert" look at the coin, and they pulled the auction. Not sure how PCGS let this coin in their holder, but its a fact.
