That belongs to a board member, doesn't it?

    Nice coin though.

Pricey, but indeed an awesome CWT.

Buyer and seller of vintage coin boards!
  • The seller is a member here.

I've gotta say, though, if I'm going to spend $16,000 on a CWT I might like to see a little larger picture image

I think I remember seeing the token at Milwaukee last summer at ANA. It is certainly a rare piece.

  • I love that token, but not up on the pricing of these......how far off is that opening bid? I do realize the seller is a member here, and I'm not taking a shot at the opening bid, regardless of how high it is. It IS a great looking piece, and from the tokens I have seen, this is an incredibly clean, originally fresh specimen. I believe there is a member here that loves this particular design on CWT's (I believe a female member....?), and while the member had really nice examples, this one is head and shoulders nicer than most CWT's I have seen period, not just the dog theme. So, as I asked, is this really more or less in line or ....?

I would say that that the price should be in line with the right person..................image

Seems strange besides being struck in copper that these were also struck in brass - nickel - copper nickel - german silver - lead - white metal-and all are R-9's (2-4 estimated in existance) Where are all the rest if there were any? With my luck if I bought this token a few kegs of them would turn up the very next day..

Would love to own it... but... my budget won't allow.

Guess I'll have to wait for the Chinese counterfeit version..

I would have to have it if I were a CWT collector, I like the theme of the piece and the condition, but alas I collect other.

We handled one of those last year (the token is long gone, no longer available, not for sale, etc., so this isn't SPAM) - I think the asking price by the current seller is about the going rate for these -

That very coin used to be on our business card when I was doing CWT's. At that time it was in Bret Palser's collection, who worked for me doing CWT's. Earlier, it was owned by Rich Hartzog, then QDB (per R.H.). Later, Alan Epstein and now Lakesamman.

It is the finest of the best when it comes to CWT's! I think the asking price is very fair! A brass one with Lincoln "Redeemed" on the obverse (reverse?) MS-66 sold for $25K about 5 years ago.

In this "age of shoddy" this is a well engraved token! It was made by a Rhode Island engraver who has escaped detection from the most dogged researchers. He also made the "Hope" tokens dated 1844. They didn't circulate. Perhaps they were all made for the J.N.T Levick, who was a Civil War Token collector while they were being made.

That's a couple of expensive mutts! Does anyone know what kind of dogs are depicted on this token? They look a little like English Pointers, but a little too lean in the body? Anybody know the 'back story' as to what they are and why they're on there?
