Weight of CBH Halves

I was playing around with my Busties today and decided, for I don't know why, to weigh some of them. These coins are all in a range of VF30 to AU55 so they are all circulated. I first checked my Redbook for the correct weight(13.48 grams) and diameter(32.5mm). I weighed several in the 1809 to 1822 date range and the weights really vary. I have one that weighs in at 13.2 gms. a few at 13.3 and more at 13.4. One of them weighs 13.6 gms. The diameters varied also, though not to the extremes that the weights did. Has anyone else seen this in their CBH's.

Higher grades tend to weigh more than lower grades.

Your results sound fine. Even the 13.6gm coin isn't uncommon.

I know that I have one that is down to something like 11.5 grams. It's a PO-1, but still light in weight
  • The differences are fine. Respectfully, John Curlis
