1989 Upper Deck Griffey

Unopened boxes vs. factory sets. Which do you guys think would yield the most (and best) Griffeys?
I remember how the UD packs were sequenced and were very easily searched. Since they werent sealed, I feel hesitant about buying them.
But at the same time, I also dont want to buy factory sets and have a dinged or OC Griffey.
Or should I just buy the raw singles??
suggestions?

edit: I see it is more like $25-30 on ebay these days...still the way to go (or wait until winter when they drop down to $20-25 again).

<< <i>I would not go the set route. It is card #1 and I have heard that the blue box bleeds on to the card. The one set I opened had the worse shape Griffey I have ever seen. >>
That's interesting, considering I opened a case of sets, and pulled 4 that graded BGS 9.5 gem mint. Not a one had any bleed of blue on them.

Your case must have been stored correctly.

Yeah, probably so. I bought 4 cases direct from Upper Deck in 89'. Once they dropped to $40 ish per factory set, I figured I could come out just as well by opening a case to see if I could have anything worth grading.
I guess I should have sold them back when factory sets were going for close to $100 per. Oh well, live and learn.. Still sitting on 3 sealed cases..

I've never thought of using sealed cases as furniture.
<< <i>I'd buy centered 8.5's from the big 3 grading companies @ $20-25 each and crack & submit the best of them. Don't waste your money on the sets/wax.

Great advice! I appreciate it! You think even after his 600th they'll go back down in the off-season??

Baseball card in general go down during the off season. In fact, I think there are some guys on this board that their business model is to buy in the off season and sell at the beginning of the next season.

Then you've never owned a case of Pro Set French Hockey... It's the cheapest coffee table you can buy!

Something I wish I knew before I bought a box on ebay a few years ago. It was a low series box that yielded ZERO rookie cards. You can imagine how pi$$ed I was. Live & Learn...
Or go down you just never know in this business. My set has 798 10's now and I will never get the money for it that I put in to it.
Just my 2 cents
