The Home Run Derby

I wonder if anyone here would be intrigued by a pitchers home run derby. Take any pitcher who hit a home run
last year and this year and they are automatically in the derby. I think it would be cool.

Also, what's up with AROD not doing the HR derby in front of his own fans ? Is this just another sign of his lack of
confidence when it matters the most ? I know he's already known as Mr. Choketober, but he's too afraid to lose in the
HR Derby ? Give me a break. Is this guy for real ? Just go out there and take a few swings for the hometown fans.

Y I have a feeling if he played and then came out in a slump for the second half he would get attacked for participating. The derby is more or less on par with the dunk contest now.

  • Cmon Berkman!
  • not sure which announcer just said this nugget....something about being 8 white guys in the derby, it looks like the Kiwanis club"

What's up with interviewing Wright during Utley's at bat? LMAO

Berk can swing, dang. Also impressed with Braun who I have never seen play.

Arod didn't want to go Abreu and never hit HR's again...even though I think Abreu just had to give up drugs and that is why he sucks now.

EF - it might be fun to watch the pitchers bat, but the owners would never allow it. The pitchers wouldn't want to risk injury either.

BTW Arod had plans at Madonna's place tonight so he couldn't make it. Anyway he couldn't handle the pressure of the Home Run Derby - He would be "like a virgin batting for the very first time" image.

  • Are you kiddin' me?!?!? Josh Hamilton is amazing, I've never seen anything like that. Wow. About half way through I was just like...I don't know, I can't even say. How unreal. This guy is the real deal, no hype.
  • Poor Morneau, nobody gives a crap.

Really??? That's all it takes is hammering some 71 year old's batting practice balls out? Good for him getting his life back on track and starting out the season on fire, but I think the hype is getting overboard.

The home run derby is lame - guys hitting easy soft ball pitches. Boring.....

That's the way I felt too until last night: hype. I thought the "human" aspect of his story was perhaps clouding sportswriters minds when they wrote about this guy. But now I see. He smashed some of the longest HRs I've ever seen hit at The Stadium. Granted, it was BP w/ a 71 pitcher but still...anyone can see this guy is the real deal.

that's what they said about Jeffries, Maas, etc....... time will tell
  • I remember watching Hensley Bam Bam Muelens hit long homers in NY as well during BP!
Hamilton is a great player no doubt, but this HR hitting contest has really got to go. I think I fell asleep twice during.

Know I'm a little late to the party but the 2004 HR derby was an absolute blast to attend.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
