mint damage/error or post-mint damage?

If i recall correctly, this one was taken from a Vatican Mint set. If that is correct, then i would assume that the damage was caused by the mint since it hadn't seen circulation and shows very few marks anywhere else. But if this wasn't taken from a mint set, does this appear to be post-mint damage of some sort?

the area i'm referring to at at the top of the coin (reverse), in the first picture; the horizontal mark that goes through the letter 'M'.

Just curious, as i hadn't noticed this before. thanks for any input!

I am looking at your pics on a monitor that has the color failing and is pretty dark. Having said that, There appears to be a few rim dings or small gouges that to me speaks of circulation of some sort. I tried to enlarge the area in question and lighten it up but I can't tell if the discoloration / mark cuts into the "M" or if it is smoothed out by the strike... If there is a mark on the field but is smooth on the M it is as minted. If it is a mark on the coin and it is evident on the letter it would be post minting. A great looking coin though and it fits well into the coinage post regarding Czech coinage regarding designs of the era...

Nice purchase and one I wouldn't mind having regardless. If it is indeed a mint error I for one would not pay a premium for it and in that rare case of an error I may actually subtract a little something from my purchasing price from a true "mint" coin...

maybe a die crack or planchet defect? does it look like the damage is under the M?
