I have no idea what the golf bag is worth. However, i know Poppa J has said that he has several 52 Mantles, so i might at least consider this. The card certainly has a lot of monetary value but absolutely no personal connection to Mantle. The golf bag on the other hand was owned by Mantle and imagine the history that bag has.
Unfortunately i will never get to make these type decisions.
I agree with you rajah because the item is priceless unlike his card which you find on eBay every week and I do remember how much he paid for JFK's golf bag, 20k, double what Mr Peterman authorized Elaine to spend but she did not want Sue Ellen Mishkee( the loaded, brawless, candy bar heiress) to have it.
Yes I am obsessed with Seinfeld thanks for noticing
If you really wanted the golf bag, I would sale the 52 Mantle and use the proceeds to buy the bag and have enough left over to treat yourself and your favorite 3 playing partners to flights out to California and rounds at Pebble Beach Golf links with your new bag. With all due respect to Mickey, he's no JFK, and his bag will probably sell for far less than a PSA 7 52 card.

I was thinking the same thing. No matter how many Mantle cards you have you still must sell or trade the cards for fair value. I'm sure Poppa will have it handled.

I also agree with Mike on this one. Sell a Mantle and enjoy the bag and some extra $$$$$$$$$$$$.
The problem is you dont know how often, if at all Mick used that bag. It might have been given to him and sat in his closet forever. I dont think that would make it very covitable. It is a conversation piece no matter what though.
Actually, with that lineage it has I think it might be worth more than a Mantle RC one day. It has a great visual look to it and is one of a kind. If I already had one or mantle RC's and lusted after something like this than why not? I would imagine Billy Crystal and some other high rollers might want this one day.

thank you all for your opinions and suggestions.
sounds like most of you agree about selling a 52 to purchase the bag and pocketing the change.
I emailed the seller to ask what his reserve was, but he hasn't replied yet.
The reason I was thinking about an initial trade was that he said the bag was appraised between $80,000 - $100,000.
That's when my youngest son told me to "ask the board"!
Of course, he's the same son that said, "Dad, If Mantle didn't want the bag, why do you?". (gotta love the teenager!)
Anyway, thanks again!

thanks Mike!
The seller just emailed me with his reserve .... $35,000!
He's not interested in a trade, so I guess I'll just sit back and wait to see if someone else cracks the reserve.
