Finished my 1967 Topps football set

At long last, I bought a PSA 8 Ode Burrell card to finish my 1967 Topps football set in 8's and better. That puts me at three sets with all 8's or better: 1960 Fleer, 1960 Topps, and 1967 Topps. Look out, Dav!

congrats, what would u say was the hardest of the three.
I have got my eye on you--under the guise of being a dealer you operate under the radar and finish these great sets.
I'll believe you are a dealer first when you sell me that certain 1960 Fleer card I need that you have.
Mike will undoubtedly say that 1960 Fleer is the toughest because of that 1 card.

Yup, there are only 2 PSA 8's and 1 PSA 9 of the 1960 Fleer Jim Woodard card. A few more cards in that set are in the single digits, also.

What Football set is next on your list to complete?

<< <i>Nice accomplishment Mike. Catching Dav is impossible. We can all only dream of that. That '67 Burrell card is tough. I still need that one too. I wonder if Ode was positioned on the corner of the '67 sheet?

When I collected back in the day, that was one card I never came across.
Congrats on a complete set.

Thanks, Rich. The pop is in the teens, which isn't too bad, but it did take a long time for one to show up. Maybe there's an Ode cult out there grabbing them all up. I don't know what the '67 sheets looked like--has anyone else seen one?

Next up is '61 Fleer. I have a couple of 6's to replace with 8's, then that one will be all 8+, too.

Congrats on the '67 set - With so few of us '68 fish in that pond you can knock that one out too.

Congrats on picking up that Ode Burrell. Tough card!
You've got to compete with the deep pocket Mississippi State U alumni collectors.
Then there's the hardcore "players from defunct franchises that nobody cares about anymore" folks.
Not to mention the collectors of running backs who never rushed for more than 528 yards in a single season.
Lastly but not leastly, there's competition from the set collectors of running backs who averaged -1 yard per carry in 1967.

For those of you that don't understand Art's little comment here ... let me help out with the translation.
Apparently Art was reading THE OTHER THREAD on the message board where we were discussing the recent lack of football cards on eBay. One can only assume that Art must have blacked out again ... and after waking up in his usual drunken stupor, he thought he was commenting in the other thread.
Feel free to show this thread to your children, to use as a scare tactic against the evils of drinking.
Mike
PS. Hey Art, call me. My phone number is 911
Someday I may submit my raw set, but so far I like the way it looks in a binder better.
I am struggling to complete 1 set and you have nailed 3 awesome sets!
What is the next project for you now?
<< <i>Mike was just wondering back when i put that set together a couplr years ago before i sold it to the empire Speedy Duncan was the hard card is that see true? >>
Yes, I just looked. Speedy is still the lowest pop, and Ode is second. (How do you pronounce Ode, anyway? Like "owed"? Or "odie"?)

You know, without looking I couldn't even have told you what position the guy played, but he had a card every year from 65-68. Guess Topps was bending to the demands of those MSU fans!

That whole set seems like it's populated by guys named by either Damon Runyan or Al Capp: Speedy, Jacque, Abner, Nemiah, Wray, Houston, Babe, Cookie, Wahoo and Ode.
<< <i>I wonder if he ever threw a halfback option pass to anybody named Billy Joe? >>
Good one!
Actually Ode went on to become a successful service station attendant
prior to serving a hitch in the United States Marine Corps ...

And you always will Doc.
Gomer & Ode .... Where do you come up with this stuff Paul?
Very, Very Nice!
You are one funny guy!!
Congrats Near Mint Mike on a truly Sensational Sixties Set!
You know in those days, I really don't think a lot of thought went into player selection by Topps.
I think it was just more like consideration given to the players who were still with the team and if they had
pictures of them quite honestly.
Where the heck was Hoyle Granger in 1968 and 69 Topps issues?
Granger I believe led the league in rushing in 67 with Houston with close to 1200 yards, and Ode Burrell carried
3 times for negative yardage ....... but again in 68 we are treated to another ODE card.
Thankfully they used a puzzle back to concel his statistics or lack there of.
In fairness to good old ODE, he was used more as a receiver/flanker out of the backfield.
I'm at 80% complete on my 1957 Topps FB set with a GPA of 7.801.
